During the production run of the Ruger Mark II stainless steel versions, specifically the KMK10, KMK678 Target and the KMK512 Target, for some reason Ruger shipped some versions with a two-piece bolt. You can tell if your pistol has the two-piece bolt very easily:

You can see the obvious seam between the bolt head and the bolt body, as opposed to the solid one-piece bolts.
Ruger gets between 3 and 6 Mark II bolts back each year that have complete head/body separations, and if they get any Mark II that has a two-piece bolt back for any reason, they automatically replace the two-piece bolt:

Once separated, they can not be fixed easily. Ruger has no Mark II bolts left in stock for replacement, so they send Ruger Mark IV bolts instead. I find that most all Ruger Mark II owners want to keep their Mark II pistols as original. Send me a PM ( personal message ) and we can discuss at least one solution involved with keeping your pistol original.
