How much could I reasonably expect to pay right now for a Ruger Mark III 22/45? Also, do handgun prices generally go up or down after Christmas?

I would like to edumucate myself a little more and wait until January, but if it will save me $50-$100, I'll buy before Christmas.

I'm pretty certain I want a 9mm, but I know I need a lot of practice to be a decent shot. A friend of mine is coming over to let me shoot his Ruger P95DC this weekend. That was actually one I was considering before I knew he had one. I saw one in a gun store yesterday for $339, new. It was silver colored up top. I think you can get them with blued barrels too though.

I know I would have a lot of fun with a Mark III 22/45 though. It would also be cheap to practice with, especially since I have access to a bunch of land in the boonies (where I live).

Check this item on www.GunsAmerica.com. $225 plus shipping and FFL paperwork. I paid $225 about three months ago direct from my local FFL, without the shipping or paperwork charge, just sales tax. I have two early Ruger Standards, a Mark II .22/45 with the 5.5 inch barrel, and the Mark III 22/45 with fixed sights and 4.5 inch barrel. I like the Mark III the best of the bunch, because the grips are flatter but still give a secure grip (I added skateboard tape to the Mark II). Being a thinner gun, it is easier to carry in an IWB holster when I'm doing chores outdoors and may need to pop a ground squirrel.

All the Ruger .22's are tricky to tear down and put back together. The Mark III has a magazine safety (won't fire with the magazine out) that adds several steps the assembly/disassembly process because you have insert the magazine to drop the hammer, then take it out again, etc. etc.

The trigger pull on the Mark III came heavy and rough. My 1911 guy smoothed it up, but it's still not great. Volquartzen makes a drop in trigger/ hammer kit that costs almost as much as the base gun. Brownell's has a hammer for Mark II's that supposed to improve the trigger pull, but nothing available yet for Mark III's.

In this part of the world, I don't see much difference in firearm prices pre and post Christmas.

If you want a great trigger from a factory .22 pistol, Browning Buckmark is about the only, reasonably priced option

What about the Sig Trailblazer? its reasonable, accurate, with a great trigger.
