So, I'm in the middle of resurrecting my dad's old Mk I, and the old grips are actually wearing out. I want to replace them, nothing fancy, probably just with some Hogue rubber, but I am having trouble finding anything for the Mk I. All kinds of stuff for Mk II and III, (not at all helpful that when you search for the I, it always includes II and III in the search results,) but not for Mk I.

So what I'm wondering is, is the only difference between the I and II grips that there is the notch for the bolt catch? Can I just use them on the Mk I and live with the blank notch cutout?

This is beginning to feel like the time I tried to modify some Beretta 92 grips to fit my Taurus T-92 by filing away enough rubber to allow for the frame mounted safety, only to find the correct set of grips the next week. (grrr.)

Shouldn't be much of an issue unless it's an older Standard/or/mMKI and the screw holes would match. Take note of post 2
if you use the MK II grip panel on the later MK I , the 'cutout' in the left grip panel allows the pin in the frame to "drift" over to the left and out, thus the 'lockwork' starts to come apart inside the frame (sear and hammer go out of alignment)

edit....
I should have said wouldn't match
