Possible local sale has just popped up...I am moving soon and I'll be near a range so I can get WAY more trigger time then I have been able to get lately. I've been thinking hard on a 22 for some time now, and want to get a nice one (but am dead broke paying for a wedding, a move, and grad school!).

Local fella has a Ruger MKII .22 with a 5 1/2 inch bull barrel he wants to sell for 275. Is that a good deal? Any info on the Mark II? I know 22s can be hit or miss sometimes and that there is a ruger model that is hell on earth to take apart for cleaning.

Any source for the 10 round mags? I like to have a few around. Should I pull the trigger on this? Is it a good deal?

That's a decent price on a Mark II Target bull-barrel model. I recently paid a little more than $300 for a Mark II Target with a 6 7/8" tapered barrel. Of course, you can get a brand-new Mark III for just a little more, but many (myself included) have the opinion that the Mark II is preferable. If you're truly interested, you should take it for $275 if the gun's condition is good.

You mentioned that there's a Ruger that is difficult to disassemble. Well, you've found it! Actually, though, all the Ruger "Mark" rimfire autopistols have this drawback. Personally, I don't see the need to disassemble them all that often, but I do admit they can be frustrating when the need arises. Still, I wouldn't let that stop me from buying it.

Finally, new Mark II mags are still available. Someplace like Midway USA would be a good place to get them.

Hey defjon - I've shot my father in law's MarkII a lot. They are great pistols. Very easy to shoot, reliable, and accurate. I have a MarkIII with the same barrel and love it. Mostly the same gun. They are a pain to take apart. I've only take mine apart about once per year. They are very reliable and don't need to be stripped that far very often. I shoot a couple thousand rounds a year out of it.

$275 is about what I would expect to pay for one. Not a spectacular deal, but you'll be hard pressed to find one cheaper either. Magazines are not cheap, about $30, give or take a little.

Happy shooting!

It's a great pistol -- a favorite range gun, in fact. The price is decent; not great, mind you, but decent. If you have a jones for a .22 caliber handgun, you can do a heck of a lot worse -- and you also can pay a heck of a lot more money for one.

As others have already stated, yes it's a good deal (fair price), for a MK. II Ruger. The 5.5" bull barrel has always been one of my favorites too for its balance and overall handling qualities.

If that deal was in my town, and I knew about it, I would beat you to the seller's door. And I am not joking, I think I paid the same price new for my 5.5 inch bull barrel Mk II.

And I would like to get another.

The MkII is the best of the series. Ruger really kluged up the basic pistol in the MkIII modification.

By the way, it is a very accurate pistol. I had mine drilled and tapped for a scope, and it helped me win a couple of combined rifle and pistol matches.
