I went by the LGS to check on a revolver I had on consignment.
Well, new since I was there a week ago was this:
Ruger MKII Standard SS taper. Just the gun and two magazines with hang tag of $350.
I looked it over and asked if there was any negotiation room. “Well we could do $340”, I said sold.

It doesn’t look like it’s been shot much at all and no cosmetic blemishes.
I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet.

Stainless Steel
Six inch taper barrel
DOB 1985

Those are incredible guns but they are a tough cookie to clean. Get a book or ten that explains it and a small mirror. Pay close attention to the mirror on reassembly so that you know when your holding your mouth just right and it all goes back together.

Ain't nothing hard about field stripping a MK once you understand it. Figure our the way the hammer and strut have to lay and you have it licked.

After awhile, once one gets the hang of it, one glories in the cleaning. In fact, it takes me less time to break down and clean my Ruger .22lr autos than it does to clean my Security-Six. I know just where to hit them on my cleaning rug so they come apart and go back together with nary a thought.

That particular Ruger really brings back the memories. It was the third handgun I ever owned (tho blued). The first was a Ruger Security-Six; the second, an RG cowboy (chromed) .22lr with brown plastic grips that needed to be tightened after each outing, and the third, well, I already said that. Major step up from the RG.

It was a great gun. Got all three in 1979. Later traded all three, but I know they're still out there...someplace. I like the shorter barrel model better, but would get a longer barrel if it dropped into my lap.

I've got one with the 7" tapered target barrel. Took it out last summer to burn some ammo I had for about 10 years. I think that was the last time I shot it. Clays at 50 yards are a piece of cake. A guy just doesn't git rid of a pistol like that. Over the years there have been some pretty nice 22 target pistols built, the MKII is one of them. Worth every penny you paid and then some. You can burn a brick of ammo and wonder where it all went. If you can ever find a spare ruger mag grab it, they seem to be scarce and pricy.
