Well I was at one of my favorite gun stores last week and saw this MKII. It has not had a well cared for life, but not too bad given its age. These are getting hard to find so I pretty much knew I wanted it even if it had some issues provided the price was right.

I gave it a good look over, there are some cosmetic abrasions on the barrel, the front sight has some scratches and the rear sight has some wear marks on the side. Couldn’t tell too much about the chamber as it was pretty grungy. I made an offer and it came home with me :D

Got it home took it apart and gave it a good cleaning. With the breach face clean I can see an ever so slight firing pin strike. It does not appear that the chamber has any damage. I took it out and put 50 rounds through it and only had one failure to fire but attribute that to the bulk ammo. I haven’t had a chance to check it’s accuracy but may get to this weekend.

Congratulations on your purchase.

I have the very same gun. My story is similar to yours. I was at Stone's in Buckfield Maine and they had the MkII, a MkIII with the 1911 Style grips in Blued steel and they had a Single Six with a 6.5in bbl.

The Single-Six was pretty haggard and they wanted more $$ for the MkIII 22/45 and after handling that back to back with the MkII it took me about 0.025 seconds to decide to get the MkII.

I was at the range with it and an older fellow with a custom High Standard (I think it was a high-standard, to be honest I dont really remember, the point is it was a customized 22lr pistol that had had trigger work and other custom work) with a red-dot scope was sitting next to me. He was getting groups of about 1.5in @ 20+yds, I was getting just about 2in with the stock sights on my MkII. Not bad for an amateur like me using bulk ammo.

Great gun...it has the best ergonomics of any handgun I have ever held. The grip angle is just right and the Bull barrel points well and is steady, and with the 5.5in bull bbl the gun carries better than the 6.5in bbl that you see on some Ruger MKI / MkII / MkIII pistols.

If you use plated lead bullets it is ideal for ground shooting partridge.

Looks good. When the friend that got me interested in guns moved out of state, I gave him one of these as a going away gift. Really sweet shooters.

Congrats,
