The Ruger MkII with the 6 inch tapered barrel (KMK-6) has probably 20,000+ rounds through it and is more throwing patterns than shooting groups lately so I have decided to rebarrel it. The local smith has Shilen blanks and has quoted $150 to put a 6 inch bull barrel (I've regretted that tapered barrel from the start) on the receiver. The question now is what adjustable sight to replace the OEM fixed sight with. I am seeking a middling high to high end target sight. One with relatively fine positive click adjustment and, ideally, interchangeable blades for both front and rear. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Has anyone any experience with any of the various flavors of .22LR match chamber reamers in autoloaders? The smith says he has standard SAAMI sport, minimum dimension match, and access to two or three different named compromise reamers (tighter than the sport standard, not as finicky as the minimum.) Any recommendations?

Go buy a new one with a bull barrel.Probably cost less than rebuilding what you have.I've seen new MK2s going for $250 to 400 in bbtarget config.

20,000 rounds of 22 through a pistol of decent quality should not have worn out the barrel. Is the crown nicked, dinged or worn from improper cleaning? How is the bore? Clean or coated with lead? I have about 6000 rounds through my MK II and it shoots better and more consistantly now than when it was new.

Thanks, guys, I guess, but the questions asked are those of sights and chamber dimensions, that of the chamber dimensions specifically for those with experience in the alternatives.

Now that is wishful thinking.
You actually expect a forum to stick to only the original question? Good luck.

Do not worry, you will end up getting some good answers.

I have never worked with rimfire chambering because the factory has always done well enough.
My experiance with centerfire chambers says that the answer depends on the ammo you use and any prep work you want to or are willing to do to it.
A match chamber will require higher quality ammo then the local Wal-mart special and may even have to check the dimensions of the cartridge depending on how tight the chamber is.
CCI SV seems to be a very popular mid-quality round and is fairly affordable.

I don't know if it will help you or not, but over on http://www.rimfirecentral.com they are very partial to certain chambers. I can't for the life of me remember what they are right now, but possibly that would help you determine which reamer you want?

Have a good one,
Dave
