I'd like to improve the trigger on my MKII a little. I was checking out the volquartsen complete trigger kit and the hammer alone at Brownell's.

I may slap a ultra dot on the pistol and try my hand at some bullseye as I am joining a gun club that offers bullseye shoots. However the Mark II will continue to get lugged around the woods occasionally and can't have an unsafe weight trigger.

I did the hammer only kit on my 10/22 and am pretty happy. I am not sure more would be necessary for me. I do think that the stainless trigger would be an appearance improvement and I like overtravel stops, although I am not sure how necessary they really are, so...

2 questions-
1. Would anybody recommend the full trigger kit for use on a pistol that is not competition only or should I just get the hammer (or neither)?

2. What is the difficulty level of the trigger kit (hammer and the whole kit)? I am fairly handy, I did the hammer kit on my 10/22 and can dissasseble a 1911 and put it back together...Can I do this? If the hammer kit woudl be a lot easier I may just do that.

I bought the Volquartsen trigger kit for my Ruger Mark II. Even after two gunsmiths worked on the gun, I ended up with lots of creep in the trigger.

I finally sent it to the good folks at Clark. They did it right. It's still a sorry excuse for a gun, but there's no creep in the trigger.

bofe954: Sir; you pose an imposing question. VQ triggering mechanically are outstanding. Reduce creep and over-travel.
With mine I never even thought about your question. Since about 1994 it has gone along on many outdoor walk-abouts.
Without question, you will end up with a positive trigger, much more controllable and should you decide to compete it's done.
Practice is what I do and knowing the let-off helps me hit my target without the creep and pressure.
Try going to GunTalkonline with the Bullseye. He is all about MK's He has pictures of how to, and some vids. Folks there know about MK's.
Follow up when you can. Thanks

For many years I did the triggers and sears as well as the springs myself and because of the time involved the cost to the customer was pretty steep, then the folks at Volquartsen came out with their complete trigger kit and I stopped doing my own because theirs was as good and far less expensive for the customer. They are not difficult to do and I think for the money you will be very happy with them.
