Is there anywhere to get a Ruger MkIII pistol frame? The barrel/chamber is the serialized "firearm" so the frame should be able to be purchased without an FFL. Does anyone know where I can get one?

I don't, but don't Volquartsen and TacSol get frames for their custom builds from somewhere?

You could look for a junker mkII (maybe a mkI, not sure) at a gun show and cannibalize the frame, keeping the upper as a spare parts donor ... most parts swap so long as they aren't involved with the LCI silliness.

Try RimfireCentral for the real experts, though, that's where the specialists are reading/posting about their adventures with Ruger's fine rimfire platforms.

It's usually the opposite with pistols. The serialized frame/receiver is usually the bottom half with the slide and barrel riding along on top. But on a Ruger Mk, the barrel and receiver are a single piece of milled steel. Indeed, this is the chunk that is serialized. The grip frame is not serialized.
