I'm trying to decide on a scope for a MKIII. It will mostly be used for plinking, rabbit and squirrel hunting. I might do some silhouette with it later on. I'm having trouble deciding between a open-style red dot or a telescopic. The telescopic would be a Nikon Encore EER 2x20mm. The red-dot would either be a Burris FastFire II or Ultra Dot Pan-A-V Reflex. Which would better suit my purpose?

YMMV, but I prefer an open red dot on a 22 RF handgun. The Burris gets good reviews but I'm afraid the 4-minute dot would be too large for my taste.
I have a Bushnell Holosight on a .22 auto. The downsides are short battery life and even at max brightness it washes out in direct sunlight. I may try a Mueller sight next.

I have a Weaver 2x on my MK3 Target. Very happy with it for mixed uses of hunting, plinking, informal target shooting. I think that Nikon 2x should be fine.

Personally, I find low powered magnification really helps to get the maximum accuracy from the gun, but I don't have great vision.
