Hi all
I am currantly planning on Building a New Vaquero Montado in 45LC for CC and am open for any views good or bad and some sugestions for a good gunsmith to make my Ruger run like A well Lubed Machine. I plan on getting it Engraved with at least %75 Coverage. If any of you have had your SA Engraved regardless of Make post some pics so all can see. I know a few Smiths myself and have taked to many over the Phone and all have about a $1500 price take for the Coverage that I am looking for. Is that a good Price? I have never got any of my Firearms Engraved so don't really know. I would like to send the Montado to Smiths & Engravers in Texas but that is not set in stone. I know that almost all Smiths can do an action job but I want to know if anyone knows of a Smith thats Bread and Butter is SA Rugers or Old Army style Revolvers.

Bob Munden, is one of the best single action gunsmiths, he shoots what he builds, and the man can shoot.

Funny I see this today.. I just picked up the lates issue of GUNS OF THE OLD WEST magazine yesterday, and I think it would be what you could use as a template for your gun.. I know I'm going to be building one for SD and CCW soon....

Thanks Ron I have that same issue I called Clinton Finley the other day my home town is about 3 hours from his shop. He said that it will be about $1500 for that coverage and take about 60 days to complete. I contacted a local engraver by the name of Otto Carter I really like his work too. http://www.ottocarter.com/engraving.html As far as the Smith goes I call up Jimmy Spurs he is a CAS shooter and Gunsmith check out his shop http://www.cowboygunworks.com/index.html.

Have you ever seen any of David Bowie's Guns? http://www.bowietacticalconcepts.com/index.html He is out of Ohio and has done both my Glock 17 19 and XD .40. If you own any Polymer Guns he is the Best.

If you like that Ruger New Vaquero in this Summer Guns of the Old West check out this article from America Handgunner from Jul/ Aug http://fmgpublications.ipaperus.com/FMGPublications/AmericanHandgunner/AHJA10/?page=52 This is what got me thinking about it but the USFA with Robar work will cost just as much as if not more then just going Stainless and getting the Engraving. I have Custom Carry Guns and I would rather get somthing different and get somthing Stanless with some Fancy Engraving is somthing that I dont have. Hope these links help you in your search. If you cant load the article let me know and I have it on bdf and will email it to you. My buddy borrowed my copy and I never got it back. HAHA but I downloaded it once I realised I was never getting it back.

Thanks Red Cent I talked to Jimmy today and was very pleased to have someone who know all about CAS working on what I want. He gave me a few ideas and said that he can work on the gun before or after I get it engraved so that is a plus. I am still not sure who I am going to engrave it but so far Otto who is local do the engraving he seem like a good guy I like his work and he said that he will draw up some patterns and let me see if they will flow with what I want. He is also about 2 hours away so he said I am more than welcome to come by his shop. But as it sits I plan on sending my Montado to Jimmy for all the action work and some extra stuff too. I am thinking about some Stag Grips but I would really like to Keep the Grips Black but havent found any but Some Buffalo Horn ones on eaglegrips online.

To finish it off, have Bob Mernickle build you a custom single holster rig. Sounds like one heck of a Bar-B-Q rig to me. I have a couple of custom Mernickle rigs. Bob can do anything and will build as requested. I am partial to a couple of rigs.Like these. The bottom one is CA 23-23 :)

I have heard of Bowie, but have never seen his work.. I hear he's good, and he has a whole tactical thing going on out there in West Union, Ohio.. I'd check out a few more of the Cowboy gun mags, but they're just too expensive.. The mags aren't, it's the pictures.......
I picked up a Ruger New Vaquero a few months ago, and it's been down hill from there.. Something about shooting in SA just seems to hit the nail on the head... It doesn't help that it's a great looking gun, also....

Red Cent I Love the Rig it looks Fantastic but I think I am going to start off with the PS6SASYS REF-1 for my Carry Rig. I do plan on picking up the New SASS Vaquero in 45 LC when they are available. I alreally called a few shops but I might just let Jimmy know I want a set and have him Tune them for me and just buy them from him. I am Deploying for the 3rd time in Sep so I will have to keep checking online while I am in good old Iraq. My wife is getting out next month that way she can spend time with the Kiddos and not be Deployed anymore. I am also interesed in One or Possible a Set of Vaquero Birdheads so if you run into anyone selling a Pair of Single let me know. Those are somthing that I would love to setup in One of your Rigs if I dont get the SASS New Vaquero First. Then I might just get two of your Rigs!
