I was in the local gun shop and they had just put this on the shelf. The owner said it was a special run by Lipsey's and I immediatley put it on layaway. No experience with this cal. will I be happy with the No.1 in this configuration? I have a No.1 in the .405 tropical but need a lighter shooting rifle.

Nice find dbublitz, the Swede round will cover all the bases for the cloven hoofed species and such.
A fairly mild recoil, coupled with high ballistic coefficient bullets give the 6.5x55 it's renown reputation as an accurate deep penetrating killer.
You'll see for yourself soon enough.
Do you plan to reload?

the 6.5x55 swede is a nice round. The bullets have very high BC values and their high section densities combined now with tough premium bullets make them penetrate VERY deep. Some professional hunters have taken elephants with brain shots with 6.5's.

Fyi - a lot of the load offerings are designed for old military surplus rifles and therefore your ruger no. 1 should be able to handle more powerful rounds. I've only read so it might be a pile of BS.

mmm, the ruger no. 1 and the 6.5; this may be the best combo of super cool rifle, accurate, and cartridge ever done. I cannot think of a better combo of rifle and cartridge, really. 'cept maybe a remmy 788 in 243 or 6mm, or a 600/mohawk in same cals, or in 358 remmy.

This thread is useless...

without pictures. :D

I'd love a Ruger #1 in 6.5x55.

It would sit right next to my Ruger #1 in .45-70, and the two of them would have a wonderful time.

That's most awesome, really neat contrast to your .405, and now you've got your bases pretty well covered. Well, maybe a .218 Bee #1 to round it ou... ;)

Might I assume, since you shoot .405, that you handload?

I will start handloading the .405 and the 6.5x55 this spring. I will post pics as soon as its off of layaway(next week). It has the stainless barrel/receiver and a beautiful piece of walnut. A nice contast I wasnt sure of until I seen it in person.

Wow my fav rifle with my fav caliber. :D You DOG Didn't know it was even produced in 6.5. I have killed 90% of my bucks in the last 20 yrs with the 6.5x55. 98 Mauser. Gotta put this one on my top 10 gotta haves

Not sure about the gun. Never had one. But I sure do love the caliber. Great choice.
