Ruger No. 1 Question

I have purchased a used but like new Ruger No. 1 approximately 30 years old in 30-06. One of the first things I noticed about this rifle was that when the safety is slid off the action has to be opened to get it to go back to the "on" position. I was curious to find out why the Ruger design was made like this and if the new Ruger No. 1 have had this feature changed. It seems to me that it would have been a better feature to have had the safe where it could have been slid "off" and then back "on". Anyone have any information?

Ruger didn't design it that way. It should go off and on freely with the action closed. Yours is faulty. Ruger will undoubtedly fix anything having to do with "safety" so their lawyers don't freak out. Contact Ruger.

Thanks for the reply. I am temped to contact Ruger for a owners manual before sending it back. Do you or anyone else have an idea what could the reason the safe will not return to the "on" position unless the action is opened and put in the "on" position? Could this have been caused by someone making a trigger adjustment? Rifle seems to work perfectly in every other way and the safe functions just fine otherwise. Thanks!

By Jove, I think he's got it!
If it is an old enough gun to have trigger adjusting screws showing, why not twiddle them a bit? If it fixes it, great. If it doesn't, Ruger still will.

I used to have a No. 1 and I can't think of anything off hand. I would at least call Ruger and tell them about it. They are freaks about "safety" issues.
