'''I currently have a Ruger No.1 in 25-06 chamber,my question is....I would like to ream it for a 257 Weatherby chamber..does anyone know if the twist is correct to do so?:uhoh:

The standard rifling pitch...

and groove diameters of the two calibers are the same - it should work out fine.
Be aware, however, that the standard Weatherby chamber has a long freebore ahead of the chamber, which is necessary to keep pressures within spec. with factory ammo. If you intend to use factory .257 Wby ammunition in the rifle, be sure to chamber to factory standards.

Later:
I've built several custom .257 Wby - chambered rifles on Ruger #1 actions, with 10" pitch barrels I made. Most of them had short chamber throats for handloaded ammunition and were marked 'Not For Factory Ctg.". All of them shot very well.

Weatherby uses 1/12" rifling on the .257.

Your Ruger is 1/10".

Also, the difference in case head size between the standard 25-06 and the belted Magnum Weatherby will require some extractor finagling to get it to work.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure the expense, and shorter barrel life would be worth the 250-300 FPS gain.

So,you have to hand load it? No one sells ammo?

Don't know of anyone selling the .25-06 AI loaded rounds, but you also have to consider that .257 Wthby ammo runs $2-4 A SHOT so you're probably going to want to handload regardless.

Like I tried to say in post #3.

Keep it in 25-06.
There is nothing the 25-06AI, or the .257 Weatherby will do that your standard 25-06 you have won't do as well at practical hunting ranges.

Spend the money on ammo, if you have to buy factory ammo, and practice more.

That will kill more game in the long run then an ear splitting .257 Wea Manglem you can't afford to shoot or practice with.

The shop I worked at years ago sold a lot of Weatherby rifles. Based on my limited observations, very few people bought them because they had a more powerful cartridge, or were better made or more accurate or more highly polished. They bought them so they could brag that they had a Weatherby! Some guys even confessed that they never fired their rifles or took them out of the house. One man told me that for the price he paid for his Weatherby, he darned sure wasn't going to take it hunting and risk getting it wet or damaged. (He hunted with an old Winchester Model 70, in .30-'06.)

That too!

A good shot with a standard caliber rifle may often find he isn't such a good shot when he moves up to a belted Magnum.

There is just something about getting belted in the chops & ears by 70+ grains of powder that causes people to start closing their eyes, flenching, and jerking the trigger!

Before long, they find the new hyper velocity Belted Magnum isn't making as many 1 shot kills as the old milder rifle was.

Back in the 80s I had a Weatherby Mk V in .257 Magnum. I did enjoy hand loading for it and it was quite a rifle for coyotes, that's for sure. I sold it during some lean times, which of course I now regret.

However... I don't regret having a rifle that costs and arm and a butt to even hand load for nowadays! About 6 months ago I opened up a box and found about 100 rounds of .257 Weatherby cartridges - a mix of about 70 rounds of brass and 30 rounds of factory cartridges I bought back then, for the brass. I got a lot of money for that brass... enough to re-convince me not to re-aquire any Weatherby belted magnum. Way too expensive, and not worth the benefits in my mind. Gorgeous rifles though - I've got no argument about that.

I am "NOT" a Weatherby Rifle person, but I do love the performance of the Weatherby Ammunition....I only buy factory loads (Norma)...I like the ballastics! My rifles consist of Model 70 Classic actions with a boss and Hart barrels....My favorite for up to 400 yds is the "257" Weatherby, and to reach out I like the 300 Weatherby...600 plus yds....All my rifles have HS are McMillan stocks....Now, I want to have a single shot Ruger in a Weatherby chambering...

I have a Ruger #1 in .25-"06 that is a SUPER shooter with reloads, especially 117 Grain Sierras.
For an additional 250 fps in velocity, IMHO the conversion expense ain't worth it!
I've taken several deer a 250+ yards with the rifle as has my Grandson!
