Ruger Old Army Value

The seller is asking $550 . He is not local so I can’t inspect it . I think that I will pass on it .

Looks rough enough that you might need a new set of nipples by the time you get them pulled and I'm a BIG fan of the ROA but if that's worth $550 then inflation passed me in the night and I didn't notice.
Which is probably true.

From what I can see I would say buy at $600 or less if you want one to shoot. However would not proceed without pictures of the bore and cylinder out of the gun or a discussion there of.

I thought it looked like pitting near the top of the frame on both the left and right but the pics are not great.
If there is pitting on the frame, I'd be worried about the nipple threads being seized too or even eroded. As well as the bore.
I've salvaged some very well mushroomed nipples, but if the threads are compromised the nipples may need to be replaced.

A pic of the nipples all removed from the cylinder and looking good would prove they aren't rusted in and tend to indicate that it's been maintained better that the pics above initially lead me to believe.
It's not easy to photograph the bore, but would be really easy to snap a pic of the nipples removed from the cylinder if they in fact are easy to remove like they should be.

If you blow up the pictures you can see what looks like some light corrosion at the barrel and cylinder gap area. It's not near as bad as the ROA I bought from Gunbroker many years ago. It was rode hard and put up wet, pretty rough. The one shown is not all that bad. Without pics of the muzzle, bore and cylinder I wouldn't bid on it.

I am going to pass on it , but if anyone is interested in it I will see if I can put you in touch with the person selling it . I don’t know him personally , he is a country boy where we talk beagles and rabbit hunting .

I see an old post below with one in stainless.
I had a blued model for a while and learned quicky they must be cleaned immediately to keep from corroding.
It was fun and accurate. 20 years ago, I sold it for $200+

If I remember correctly I bought one in excellent condition in 1973 for $140, That equates to $970.51 today. Given the condition of the one shown and I blew the picture up to a huge size, if the internals are good I would say it is a good price at $550 of today's monopoly money.

I've found that most folks selling an ROA seem to believe it was unfired if it isn't all rusty and full of fouling.
That revolver in post #18 looks pretty nice, but has enough wear for me to expect it has been fired a few times at least.
Not that I'd be hung up on that, but for some reason "unfired" tends to add value for some folks.

Specially when the gun isn’t hardly broken in with less than a thousand rounds.

I guess it comes down to are you gonna shoot it or look at it? My ROA was a beater for sure but it its a great shooter, minute of jackrabbit at 75 yards. The bore and chambers are pitted as is the outside. Recrowned the barrel and cleaned it up as best as I could and now it's one of my go to bp revolvers.

Good grief the numbers on this thread. Are they really worth that much now? If that is worth 550-600 mine is worth 1000
