Was the Ruger Old Army made entirely in the United States. Was in made in one caliber only? What would be the recommended charge to be used if you plan on using a felt wad? Thank you

It was also the strongest of all B/p repro's although many don't call the ROA a repro, because it doesn't resemble any historically correct pistol. Because it was so well made and American made the price was higher than it's Italian or Spanish competitors. They stopped making them due to poor sales, and now everybody wants one and the market reflects it. Glad I got mine before they stopped production.

I get more satisfaction on shooting and modifying my stainless 5-1/2" than any pistol I have ever owned. I know I've gone overboard on my mods but it seems to fit its personality.

Shooting it well makes me feel like I've really accomplished something.

Depends on what you want to do with it.
I shoot Cowboy Action with mine.
20 grains FFFg & round ball or 155 grain EPP-UG big lube boolit
25 grains FFFg & 210 grain Big Lube boolit

No wad is needed with big lube boolits.

Hunting? I would use the 210 grain big lube with as much powder as it would hold.

Target shooting?
Cap guns typically shoot better with lighter loads.

Here's a old one. I bought it new in 1971. Cost 125.00

Well, I'll consider my SS ROA that I bought last year NIB for $495 a bargain then. :neener:

According to the inflation calculator: "$125.00 in 1971 had the same buying power as $660.26 in 2009."

Seriously though, that inflation stuff is a real eye opener. :what: Wait until the Feds start up the printing presses again. To the OP, with a lubricated wad and a RB I like to go with 30 - 35 grains of BP for optimal fun. Crank it up to 40 grains for maximum smoke-n-boom!

Like stated above, there is only one caliber. I use a felt wonder wad, 35 g of FFF black powder, and 250g Buffalo Bullet. It's a tight fit, and the bullet seats right at the lip of the cylinder. If you don't use the felt wad but a little wonder lube after you seat the bullet, you can use about 40 grns.

I use these loads for hunting. I prefer using the wad based only on the mess factor. But both are very accurate and manageable loads.
