Can't keep a good curmudgeon down, I guess.

How true, I should know when to quit... :uhoh:

But some younger folks that know a lot more then me may be surprised to learn that all revolver cylinders are not created equal. The particular alloy and heat treating process is matched to the pressures expected in the cartridge(s) for what they will be chambered.

To pick one example, among us old timers that don't know anything, it used to be popular to have Colt SAA .357 Magnum cylinders rechambered to larger popular rounds, such as .44 Special and .45 Colt. This bought a little extra insurance for those that liked Elmer Keith's loads, which by some of today's standards were (and are) very reasonable.

Old Fuff
Thanks for coming forward. It was driving me nuts trying to find the post where I read your comments. I would love to hear more of your conversation with Bill Ruger and what kind of man he was. I guess it's kinda like hearing someone you know talked to a movie star.
