update:
as stated above, my dealer let me exchange the first Ruger for another one. Today was the first time I have taken the replacement gun to the range. Took around 100 rounds of reloads, 90 were 230gr FMJ, 10 were Rainier 200gr.
The loads were on the stiff side, 5gr Bullseye, or 6.4gr Unique, since I have read somewhere that this gun doesn't like light loads.
Anyway, the gun BANGED every time. I was quite happy with it, out of the box. However, on my last magazine (the Rainiers), it jammed once. I like loading Rainiers (or Berrys), unfortunately, I may have to stick with FMJ ball ammo with this gun.
Mechanically, right off I noticed a different "feel" with this gun versus the first one. For example, when using the Decocking Lever, this 2nd gun feels different... it is a much "stiffer" feel when pushing down the decock lever. Something wasn't right with the first gun, right from the start.
So, I'm happy with this one. Hope it continues to function good.
