im in the market to buy a ruger p89 tell me what you think i want to evaluate peoples perspetive of this gun thanks!!!!!

Pretty much as Dave said i have couple rugers cant go wrong.. Plus you can usually find hi caps pretty easy and the mags will fit a PC9 if you decide to get the 9mm carbine

I've got a KP89. I like it. Even shoot IPSC with it on occasion.

It's got a big grip, with my medium sized hands, I like it... Very good accuracy (shoots as well as I can shoot it anway).

My buddy has large (read huge) hands, and for whatever reason he hates it. He's shot it quite a bit, and just can't hit consistently with it.

Pretty subjective I guess. Best bet would be to find a place to rent / borrow / whatever one and put a few rounds downrange.

I will say this for it, It's been 100% reliable. Even when I was starting out reloading it took everything in stride. I'd put a conservative estimate at 5k rounds without a hitch.

virtually indestructible, decent accuracy, inexpensive.

If it was a Glock, it would be the perfect handgun :).

Anyway, go buy a P89 :).

Just my .02,

thanks for your honesty

i appriciate it i made a post in the selling forum to see if i can get it for cheaoer if not i will go buy a new 1 next week thanks guys:p

I'll admit that they will ignite just about anything. I never had a FTF or FTE with mine. It wasn't the most accurate pistol I have ever had. I was pleased with it for a truck pistol on the farm.

I'd have to say mine was pretty accurate in addition to being "built like a tank" it was just a bigger gun than I wanted to CCW. If I were looking for anouther plinker or a "truck gun" then the P89 would be what I would buy.

Dependable as can be but ugly as a mud fence. Accuracy of the pistol is better than what this owner can do with it. Any problems I've ever had with it I can attribute to ammunition.

If it fits your hand and you like it, there's no reason not to buy one.

i found the p89 to be rather large, and heavy. i also hated the way it recoiled... felt very strange. didn't care for the trigger, though on a da/sa, it isn't likely to find a truly great trigger.

the gun was, however, very reliable. my cousin and brother in law both have beretta 92's... we went out shooting, and the p89 never had a hiccup. it may or may not have hit a target, but it didn't have any troubles. both berettas had troubles w/ jamming, but at least they hit the targets... oh well.

i sold my p89, and don't miss it a bit.

Ahem, I know you don't want my opinion but I'll post it for the rest of the board.

They are good solid guns, reliable, tough as nails but ugly and have not got much of a following for easy resale.

The problems I have with the gun are mostly a matter of taste and ergonomics.

The slide mounted safety/decocker is not the best idea in the world. frame mounted levers are much better for ease of use.

The size makes it less than ideal for CCW and in my area at least there are few examples of good leather to go with the gun.

It would make a great under seat "Oh ????" gun but I personally would spend my money on something I could turn more quickly if and when my tastes changed.

YMMV

My P89 has taken over the HD duties in my house---all the more expensive hardware is locked in the safe.

It goes bang everytime--have 2 20-round Mec gar magazines(giving me 41 rounds on tap----more than enough)----accurate enough to put someone down at household ranges----and was cheap to buy.

What's not to like?

This is your basic meat and potatoes gun. Not particularly attractive, IMO, but reliable, accurate, and strong. Prices are excellent. I would rather have the P95 (or the metal framed version - don't know what it is), but that's just the way my tastes run. Standard cap mags are reasonably priced and fairly easy to find.

The metal framed version of the P95 is the P93. I own a P89 and it is a great shooter. Absolutely no malfunctions yet, and accuracy is better than what I am currently capable of (with my shooting, that's not saying much :uhoh: ) Anyways, I am relatively new to guns so that will hopefully change for the better.
