Going to the PA Gun Show in two weeks and I am thinking about getting a Ruger PC40 or a Ruger PC9. The PC 40 would be my first choice IF Hi-Cap magazines are readily available and cheap, if they are what magazine would I need to look for and where would be a good source? If I get the PC9, what Ruger Hi-Cap magazine does it take a Ruger 85 or 89? I'd shoot lead bullets so what type of rifling does it have? Nothing shallow I hope. I prefere a good used one so I'm guessing around $350.

Thanks for the input.

I have the PC9.
It is a nice quality 9mm carbine. At the time I bought it, I intended to use it for coyote hunting, although I don't think I ever did. I mounted a Leupold/Gilmore optical sight on it using a Weaver rail from Jack Weigand. I own a Ruger P89, so I already had the magazines, but I also got some 30 round stick mags from CDNN that seem to run fine.
The Ruger PC9 is a mid-priced 9mm carbine. The Hi-Point would represent the low end of the pricing spectrum and probably the AR15 would be at the high end. Somehow I ended up with all three, and I seldom shoot any of them.
I would check somewhere like CDNN and see what they have for magazines. At the time I bought mine they had a lot of Ruger full capacity magazines for very good prices however this was a few years ago.

The Commando 45 lead to "other" things

Thanks for the help, you learn something new everyday. Although I reload ammo, factory made is getting so cheap (non-target grade) that often its not worth the bother. Just took the Commado Mark IV out again and its just a riot of fun to shoot but going thru 500 rounds of 45ACP reloads (without a single malfunction!) is getting to be a pain. I can get 1000 rds of 9mm shipped for $89, I'll just let the brass lay on the ground.

That is pretty much what I do. I am a dyed in the wool handloader and do handload for 9mm, but I am getting to the point that I just go to Wal-Mart and buy it. However I can't bring myself to let the brass lay.
One reason for this is that I seem to get better accuracy with factory 9mm ammo. I am not sure why. I have loaded 9mm for well over 10 years but never really got outstanding accuracy with any load I tried. I always thought one reason might be because I pretty much always used cast bullets. My accuracy wan't bad, but it wasn't quite up to what I get with factory.
I have been telling myself for the last six months that I need to take that Ruger carbine out and play around more with it. I haven't shot it for a year or two. I also was thinking about putting a scope on it and seeing what it will do for pure accuracy.
This thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45283&highlight=chrono
has some chrono data out of a 9mm carbine that I got. It is close to the end of the first page. Sort of interesting. I used a 16" AR15 in 9mm, but I am sure the results would have been very close with the Ruger.

I believe it does, but have never tried it.
As I mentioned, I got a Weaver rail for it. I remember that it mounted in those slots like Ruger uses for it's scope rings. I can't remember if that carbine came with a set of rings or not. I am pretty sure I have some lying around to use with it. I know I have a Leupold 2-8 scope laying around loose that I can put on it. It will be interesting to see what it can do. I always felt like I had parallax problems with the dot sight I have mounted on it.
