Does anyone have a Ruger PC-9 carbine? What do you think of it? pros? Cons? This thing intrigues me any info would help.

Thanks

I own one. Haven't had an opportunity to shoot it yet, but so far it seems like it would be a fun piece. The trigger mechanism, as I understand, is somewhat complex in it's operation and makes smoothing it out difficult. It's a heavy gun for being a pistol caliber carbine but I find it shoulders well, and I can move with it without issue. I hope my opinion of it remains favorable after I get a chance to shoot it.

Had one, didn't like it. Had some jams, wasn't that accurate and was kind of bulky and hefty to me. I preferred the Marlin 1894c .357 for the same niche.

Had one and sold it to buy an Uzi, which I stilll have and is a hoot!

Ruger PC9 problems:

1) Trigger pull is very heavy, like John Candy class heavy.
2) Magazines aren't available in capacities over 15 rounds.
3) Field stripping requires tools and results in small, easily lost parts.

The Uzi suffers from none of these problems, plus it's more 'evil'. BSW

Had a PC4 (.40 S&W). Ditto briansmithwins (though I don't have an Uzi) ... plus:

4) heavy for its size.
5) wish it took Glock magazines.

2) Magazines aren't available in capacities over 15 rounds.

This is incorrect unless it's a recent development. I had a 20-round Mecgar magazine for the PC9 that worked without a hitch. (Here's one on Midway )

Agree that trigger pull is heavy and field stripping is a little difficult. Mine ran like a top, though.

lousy balance and sights could be replaced with a peep or ghost ring setup.
only shot it indoors.

2) Magazines aren't available in capacities over 15 rounds.

Mine came with a 27-round magazine. They're after market and reliability is iffy but they exist. PCs are interchangeable with Ruger P pistol magazines so if you can get hi-cap for those then you're good to go.

Anyway I own a Ruger PC9 with ghost ring sights and it's very accurate for it's class.

Pro: It's built like a tank. Very robust and reliable.
Con: It's heavy for it's size.

Pro: Aftermarket hi-cap mags are inexpensive and readily available.
Con: Likewise they have reliability issues. My 27-rounder works perfectly though.

Pro: Disassembly is easy.
Con: Reassembly is difficult and tricky.

Pro: Barely any recoil at all.
Con: Did I say it's heavy?

Pro: It's accurate for it's class.
Con: Trigger is heavy.

Pro: If you have Ruger P pistols then you can use the same mags for both.
Con: It is (by it's design) uncustomizable as far as the stock goes.

But keep in mind that these were designed for police duty. PC stands for Police Carbine. So I guess they focused on robustness and practicality more so than sporting aspect.

In the end it's my favorite gun to shoot and one of my favorites overall. I certainly don't regret buying it.

Ruger stopped making them for all the reasons mentioned above. Ruger had this idea that police departments would use it because it took the same magazines as their pistols. The one flaw in this idea was that almost no police departments carry Ruger pistols!
