I'm looking to pick up an O/U this weekend. Last weekend when I was in my favorite gun shop I shouldered all of the O/U's they had in stock. Only two felt "right" to me... a Ruger Red Label All-Weather, and a CZ (forget which model.)

I've heard various negative reviews of the Red Labels from owners, and very few complaints from CZ owners about their shotguns. Most of the negative reviews of CZ's seem to be from people that have never even owned one.

Out of the two I've listed, what would be the better purchase? I'm looking to mainly use it in the field. I prefer the Ruger's appearance... however, if the CZ is higher quality, I can't justify spending the extra $$ on the Ruger. The Ruger is $879, the CZ is around $500-600.

Thanks!
Ben

Download the latest CDNN catalog and look through it before you run off and buy either one. Winchester Select Field for $899 beats both IMO. Weatherby SKB Orion Classic II for $1097 is a great deal also.

What Gauge do you want, though?

What do they want for the All-Weather? It was discontinued after a short run (if you mean the gray one). I wanted one, but decided against it when I lifted it. Too heavy for a field gun, IMO. Otherwise, it would be a great gun to have.

CZ's are made by Huglu in Turkey. That's why a lot of experienced shotgunners wouldn't touch them. Maybe they're made better than they used to be. I can't recall reading a post from someone who had any real number of rounds through one, so another "I like mine" post means nothing to me. The one I looked at was pretty clunky, and was around $900. I lost interest quickly.

I'd take a look at that Winchester...

I'm looking for a 12 gauge. The one I hefted last weekend didn't seem too heavy, but I was definately planning on comparing weight more closely this weekend.

The Mossie is tagged for $879, and the CZ was $600 or slightly below, if I recall correctly.

Which Mossberg was 879?

You mentioned a Ruger and a CZ.

If you want a 12, definitely look at the Winchester.

What kind of complaints have you heard from RRL owners? ive had mine for almost a year and no complaints here. Last time I had it at the range a guy actually mistook it for a Beretta! Mine is a 20ga so it is slimmer in profile and lighter than the 12ga is.

o/u shotgun

I have a red label(ruger) in twenty gauge. I love it. The thelve gauge seemed a bit heavy and bulky, but the twenty and twenty eight are on gauge specific frames(three sizes). Been a nice gun to carry in the uplands. Got very nice wood too. You will just have to shop around and try em out first, see what you like.

I used to own a Ruger in 28 gauge - gave me nothing but problems...after about a flat of shells, it had to go back to Ruger for all new internals...Ruger's CS is top notch - too bad their shotguns aren't...JMO....wound up selling it off and buying a Remington 1100 in 28 gauge.....works great
