Ruger Redhawk 4" barrel length

Does Canada require that barrels are "over 4 inches" or something?

I'm sure that Ruger would answer that question. I've never seen one; they've only been out for a few months, and Ruger's guns aren't always actually available just because they're supposed to be available.:)

Yes, tragically an inside joke found it's way onto the policy list and no-one had the nerve to point it out.

I'll try Ruger again then, they were out before.

edit: got through, it's 4" exact:(

They're out there. Handled one just last week.

Lucky-looks like you have the wrong handle, eh?:(

An interesting question. Sometimes the actual length of the barrel does not match the specs given, e.g., Smith & Wesson's two-inch J-frames actually being 1 7/8", or 6-inchers actually being 5 7/8". A caliper will most accurately measure the barrel length - swing out the cylinder and put the caliper jaws on the muzzle and the rear of the barrel to take your measurement. (The portion protruding beyond the front of the frame is not the barrel length measurement.)

Hang in there!

Lucky: "Well, nothing wrong with a 5.5" I suppose. If Utah stops dicking around and issues the carry permits I wonder if said Redhawk would be carryable?"

Porter: If you are looking for a Utah permit, be patient. They are swamped with applications since the Trolley Square shooting in Salt Lake City.

I kid you not, the gun stores emptied a ton of stock and the CCW permits went through the roof. It used to take 3-6 weeks to get a permit. Because of the amount of the applications it may take 3-6 months. My cousin is going through the process and has been waiting 3 months this far.

BTW, I own the Ruger 4 inch and yes it would be legal here, but I think you would be nuts to try and carry anything that big and heavy around! (Except in the woods--and you have to have a CCW to do it!) Try the Redhawk Alaskan if you really want a .44 for CCW. It is still big, but not a big as the Redhawk.

JMHP,

Thanks man, but the deputy-chief in the CCW office arbitrarily announced they're not giving permits to outsiders anymore. I did the course in December. Some detail between being able to purchase firearms vs possess them (hunting lic.), or something with the residency requirement aiui. NRA is on-side and maybe hopefully we'll have it straightened by next year.

So far the best gun for taking from Canada to the US is a Taurus pistol, the 24/7 iirc, which is listed as a 4" barrel but comes in at 4.2" or so. To get a 4" or less barrel I'd have to buy it in the states, and keep it there, which would be lots of work.

Sorry!

I didn't realize that it was such a pain to try and get your waepon here. I guess it might be similar if I was coming there. I don't kow the laws but a few have told me that getting a handgun backup in Maple country is a laugher.

I hope someting works out. You could go for the dual citizenship idea...my Bro in law did it.

God Bless,

Porter

Did he do it recently? I just learned that a family member is going to have to choose which citizenship he wants. I think the US stopped allowing dual-citizenship with Canada (which was one of or the only country allowed that status). I would choose US citizenship because it's easier to get into Canada as a foreigner than to get in the states, and US taxes are better.

Mag-na-port will cut a 5.5" Redhawk to whatever you need. I think the price is on their website. They did mine a few years back. Excellent work. Good price. Nice people. (But the gun is still very heavy, compared to a Smith 4" 629 Mountain Gun - which is what I finally bought.)
