Ruger M77 Rifle (Top Tang safety model in 0.308 Win.).

Wish to fit a 1" tubed Hawke Varmint scope. 4-16x44 AO.
The rings supplied with the rifle (#4 & #5 I believe) are too low.
The AO of the scope drags on the top of the barrel.
I also want a reach forward/back ring in the set.
:(I wanted to get the Leupold high set which appears to be perfect for the job (Leupold # 52301 /Midway USA # 224077).
I understand,Unfortunately, that companies are not allowed to export Leupold products from the USofA..
Therefore I must either buy the requisite set of Ruger rings or an adapter base which will fit the top of the ruger action & then alternative rings to my requirement.

Would welcome advice please.

To include contact info on any companies which would export either Ruger rings or an alternative adapter base & rings to the UK.

Many Thanks
Yamavira:(

I would check gunbroker. I am not aware of legal export restrictions. Maybe leupold has some sort of policy with its distribution rights in which case small auction vendors would probably be free to sell.

I just reread what you posted and am curious. what type of rings and bases are you using now? if it is a tang safety model aka a round top, they take the same bases as a remington 700. the product you listed from midway is for a m77mkii or m77 hawkey which has the integral bases milled into the receiver. if your rifle already has bases, then all you should need is a compatible set of rings that are a bit taller than what you have now.

post up some pics so we can id what you got and get you set up.

Have you called Ruger? When I got my M77 a few years back, I made the mistake of not taking it with me to the gun shop. :banghead: I ended up with the same problem you're having, the supplied rings were too low for the scope I got. "Why didn't you just get a different scope?" you ask. Because I love the scope I got and am too stubborn to admit that I made a hasty purchase. So I called Ruger, told them what the situation was, and they immediately sent out a taller ring (the rifle came with the #4 & #5, they sent me a #6). I put the #4 in the mail back to them and only had to pay the return shipping which was minimal at best. That would have been all fine and good, except the spacing of the rings was such that the bell of the objective lens hit the forward ring and you couldn't tighten them down. :fire: SOOOO, I had to order the Leupold off-set rings. All is right in the world of my rifle now, but I'd start your search with Ruger directly. Check to make sure your scope will work with the spacing of the rings, as it is with the factory milled integration spots, and go from there. If you can get away with just a higher set of rings, you should be able to swap out the lower ring for a higher one. If not, check the listings on GunBroker. There were several sets of the Leupold rings being sold when I was going through my ordeal.

Hope that helps.

jakk280rem, the tang saftey Rugers came in both RST ans RS versions, among others. The RST was the round top,and the RS used standard Ruger rings.

if the rings are new Ruger will trade free of charge for the ones that will work...just a thought
