Ruger SA redesign

Back when Ruger redesigned the SA revolvers they did two things.

1.They developed a retrofit transfer bar for the existing guns.

2. They designed a whole new system including a transfer bar and interconnecting the cylinder to the loading gate. (sorry I'm not up on the inner workings of a NM Blackhawk etc.)

My question is why?
Why did they not simply do the retrofit and continue with production the way the guns were, only include the retrofit on the new guns?

IIRC, the retrofit includes only the transfer bar, not the loading gate interlock, which is a nicety, the "icing on the cake", so to speak, eliminating any need for a "half cock". Why not go all the way on production guns? The extra cost is negligible when amortized over hundreds of thousands of units.

The retrofit system has always seemed kinda rough to me, and the trigger pull was nothing to desire.

The total rework of the New Models is a better system IMO.

Progress to the newer safer design is a business thing - it's called CYA. if people would take responsability for their own actions and not be greedy (sue for their own ignorance) we wouldn't be asking this question.
When you have an upgrade to an existing design, you integrate that new design into production. Again - business.

CYA maybe, but I appreciate 6 rounds on tap, personally. I always thought having to carry an SAA on an empty chamber was lame.
