Ruger SBH rust on hammer.

Hey guys I need some help removing rust on the hammer on my Super Blackhawk 44 mag. Its kinda hard to explain but there is a thin layer of rust on both sides of the hammer. It wont come off with oil and Iv tried steel wool but it seems to be stuck on very hard. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do?

The best bet is to take the hammer out of the gun and re-polish it using 600 grit black Wet or Dry paper on a flat steel or glass plate surface.

Note the factory finish marks on this hammer.

Try to slide the hammer in the same direction on the emery paper surface each stroke to duplicate the same pattern.

You will have to work around the wide hammer spur, so tape it off with vynal electrical tape to keep from getting the bluing scratched.
