Ruger Security Six

I have this gun on my watch list on GB. It says that the single action notch is boogered up because someone worked on it. I know Ruger can repair it but it is not a warrenty item obviously and I was wondering if anyone had sent a gun back to Ruger and had to pay for repair like this how much it cost? If its too much then the gun is not a deal. Any help is appreciated.

Not worth it in my opinion. No telling what else they did to the gun. Keep your eyes peeled, be patient, and wait for a good deal on another SS. Awesome guns by the way.

Thats what I was thinking. My tightwad buddy is the one who wants this. I don't think he realizes just how expensive this "cheap gun" could get.

There was a 6" blued that sold a few days ago for $289 plus the attendant shipping charges. I should have bought that one.

Yes they might but I think I would protest. This is not a factory fault but the result of some idiot that didn't know what he was doing. It might be nothing more than someone that cut too many coils off the main spring. I just wonder if the chance is worth it?

It's fixable. Ruger's customer service is good. The main expense is in getting it to them. If you're looking to eventually flip the gun it's probably not economically feasible. If you want a good working gun that you will use for years and will outlast you, then it's worth doing. Once fixed, they stay fixed. (Unless some moron gets into it.)

Go to GB and.....

.......punch in " Ruger Security Six " in the general search. When the results come in, go to "parts kits". Then determine if it's worth it. Good thing about the Security Six is that it's modular. Anyone can tear them down and replace parts easily. Instructions for this are on the 'net or even Youtube. If you can get it cheap ($200), it might be worth it. I wouldn't go much higher though with FFL fees plus shipping and handling. The six inchers usually sell cheap enough not to hassle with this extra stuff. I tracked a lot of "six" stuff in the past year. Got a blued Speed Six (2 3/4) that I gave to my stepson after getting a SS Speed in 2 3/4. Plus a SS Security in 2 3/4. I was looking for my Grail carry piece. The SS Speed with the heavy barrel was the one I wanted.

Kevin I took your advice and did a parts search and found a rebuild kit for $50 plus $8 shipping. That makes the gun $200 plus $20 shipping, $20 on our end and $58 for the parts. Thats $298 total. don't think its worth it. But my buddy might. I would pass at this point. Thanks for the input everyone.

Yes, wait. There always will be another deal coming along and which might be better. Don't buy into other people's trouble(s).
