Unusual Ruger SP-101 (KSP-821DOS)

Now it looks like the older .38 model of the SP-101, and not made as a .357. It seems to have the shorter .38 cylinder and frame.

I have a .38 version of the SP-101 but with regular hammer.

I suspect it was made for export.

Dang... I sure wish ol' Roog would release this model as standard.

I'm pining for a DAO .38 special only SP-101.

Not sure why, but I am!

Wikipedia is only as good as the people contributing the articles. It is notorious for false info, misleading, and partial information, etc... I love Wiki, but it has its limits. It's no Encyclopedia Britannica. I don't take any info gleaned from Wiki as being definitive.

Yeah, with wiki I sort of read articles that I already kind of know about and can sometimes pick out erroneous or opinionated material.

As for the SP101, Ruger should make this a regular part of there lineup. I see the one in the auction sold for under $500, I'd of been happy to pay that for the gun but unfortunatly missed the ending bidding!

I e-mailed Ruger with the model number to try to get to the bottom of the DOS story, got a sort of form e-mail back asking for serial number, let us know what you find out.

Years ago before the SP-101 was "extended" from the original 38 Special size frame to the current 357-size frame, there was a model in a local store that had that style of hammer. It was a regular DA/SA model, not a DAO model.

I almost purchased it but did not. That particular SP-101 was the only one like that I ever saw. Several days later it had been purchased by someone else and the store had no more like that.
