Just wanted to share. I've been shooting more lately and decided to tune my single action rugers (45 Vaquero / 22 Super Six)

I started with a poor-mans trigger job. UNLOADED I applied pressure to the back of the hammer while I fired it. Of course with the 22 I left spent cases in it. I did this 5-6 times to burnish the hammer/sear.

Next step was to take one side of the trigger spring off the pin. The trigger spring looks kinda like a U with the open end facing rearward. The two ends loop up and over a pin under the grips. Taking one side off lightens up the trigger pull.

I liked the way that felt so I ordered some wolff springs. 30oz trigger and 19lb hammer springs. It took about 20 minutes to take the guns apart, replace the springs and put them back together. The only custom tool I needed was a screwdriver that I filed the sides to fit into the recesses. I tried a small screwdriver but didn't have the leverage and it didn't fit the head right.

The action is incredible. I don't have a trigger gauge, but I'd say there's a 40% reduction in pull and my groupings have shrunk by 50%. A couple times at 7 and 10 yards I put two rounds through the same exact hole.

Ok, I've now shot a couple hundred rounds through the guns after I changed the springs and the accuracy improvement is incredible. I wish I did this a long time ago.

I just picked up a 5-1/4 inch Vaquero and took it to the range today and it was all over the place. I asked the RO for a screwdriver and popped one side of the trigger spring off and wow...

Gotta order a spring kit for the new one...
