He was referring to bore size difference in the factory 22lr gun barrels and those that came convertible from factory.

Now I was under the impression that was an old wive's tale. Any parts lists I have seen have never specified different barrel part numbers for convertible vs non-convertible guns. Please take no disrespect from this rcmodel, as I am by no means saying I am an authority on this but I sure would like to get to the bottom of it all with someone who is.

I believe the old saying that 22wmr bullets are larger in diameter is a farse as I have measured MANY different brands and styles and models and have found that in general, 22wmr are more uniform in spec, but in the 22lr realm...there are many that come in larger than most 22wmr specs.

I've thought kind of the same thing; Ruger probably makes their Single Six barrels slightly oversized to the .22 Magnum. This makes the gun safe to use with either cartridge, and saves them in manufacturing costs as well. Due to the variations in .22LR bullet specs, and the fact that this not a gun that's going to be used in any target competiton, any corresponding loss of accuracy because of the larger diameter barrel is going to be minimal.

I can tell you for a fact that Ruger enlarged their .22 bores with the intro of the convertibles and magnums, and every gun since then has featured the larger diameter bore....and will also pretty much state none of the SS's have shot all that well, since.....my old flatgate is astoundingly accurate as are several other pre-convertible/magnum guns....I handed the old flatgate to a match shooter who wanted to see for himself, and he tagged 4/5 20ga hulls at 50yds....my thoughts at the moment were more along the lines of, ".....and humiliated with my own gun...", manufacturers go by SAAMI spec, and not individual ammo measurements, FYI.....
