I recently purchased a ruger service six stainless in 38 with a 4" barrel. I loved it from the moment I held it but so did the wife, and she likes so few guns I felt compelled to give it to her and so I did. Problem is now I am jealous and I want a ruger six of my own.

I carried the revolver in a iwb uncle mike holster, not the best holster for it but I was surprised by how easy it was to conceal so for my next six I would like to purchase it with the intent of carrying it concealed.

I just can't decide which one to go with, I know I want a 357 but I just can't decide which of the sixes in what finish and barrel length and I'm hoping some input may help me decide.

Please post picks if you got them and tell me what works for you.

The Speed Six is the concealment standard for the Six series of Rugers. 2 3/4 inch barrel, fixed sights, and slightly rounded butt make it conceal slightly better.

Really though, any of the 2 3/4 inch barrel sixes will conceal well enough. They are a nice package to be sure.

Good Lord Madcratebuilder! How........

........big of a paw do you have? That grip is huge!:D Anyway, to the OP, The 2 3/4 barrel is easy to carry. My Speed Six is the easier to carry though I carry my Service Six because it's stainless. The Speed Six is blued, I let the wife have that one.

The 2.75 inch barrels conceal well

Seems like the way to go, I kinda want to get a blue 4" speed six, being I'm probablly gonna make a project out of the gun, if I have trouble concealing the 4" I'd probablly chop it to 3". something about short barrel 357's bugs me (anything under 3") not that I would own one, its just if I can avoid it I will.

I have a speed six with 2.75" that is carried concealed for trips to town and a service six with a 4" for walks in the woods.

I have heard people say that it's easier to carry a 4" revolver iwb than it is to carry a shorter barrel length due to the barrel stabalizing the gun more, anyone have any expierience with this to say whether or not there is any truth to it?

Ocelot,
You are correct in your assumption. The longer barrel does help keep the firearm stable. The problem, however, comes when one is constantly standing up and sitting down. The constant shifting CAN push the gun up or cause the holster to pinch your fleshy areas. That's why I prefer 3" barrels for ccw, medium frame revolvers (GP100 3" in a Hoffner's IWB).

Had to wait about 3 weeks for mine.

madcratebuilder,
Those grips are very nice, sir. Who makes those?

Just use Buffalo Bore .38 LSWHPs in your 'six' revolver.

I have chroned them out of my 2 3/4 inch speed six that is in .38. 1100 FPS!!!

Yes and that ain't bad at all!
