In the interest of funneling every dollar of my tax return into guns rather than fripperies like, say, rent, I am looking at a half-shroud Ruger SP101 in .22LR. Though I tend to prefer Smith wheelguns, I've got a pathological weakness for 22 revolvers of all stripes.

After combing through the search feature, I've encountered a mixed bag of opinions regarding the accuracy of the rimfire SP101. Bear in mind, I'm not looking for a match gun.

Anyone have any experience with this gun?

Thanks.

I have the same weakness. :D
I bought an old model bearcat a couple months back, and an SP .22 w/ the half shroud last month.
I'm very happy with the accuracy of the SP. I've only had the time to shoot about 100-150 rounds through her, and while she gets quite dirty, I kept it mostly around the black at 50 feet. The windage only sights had me worried but all is well. She does exactly what I want her to do.

Thanks, Harbinger, that's the stuff I'm looking for.

Funny that you've got the half-shroud version as well. My understanding is that Ruger quite making them in the mid to late nineties, before they abandoned all rimfire SP101 production a couple of years back. Anything that cuts the considerable weight and improves the balance is fine with me.

Buy it! I used to have one, still rue the day I traded it in. It was, for me, the most accurate .22lr wheel gun I've ever owned. I'll spare you the fish tales, but suffice it to say I pulled off shots with that SP that I had not right in making. The windage adjustible rear sight may seem a little flimsy, but it works, mine never came loose. They made a fixed sight SP101 in .22lr once upon a time but those are even harder to find

If I EVER find one again I'm all over it.

Thanks again. That's pretty encouraging.

At the very least, what I can't hit with the Ruger I could definately pummel to death with it! Lots of steel there.

New Ruger SP101 in 22LR

Sweet! I won it!

Here are the pictures the seller posted on Gone-Broker:

If my bionic eyball is still working

Got to get me one of those.

Anyway, the seller happened to be in the same state, so I'll try to pick the gun up this weekend. I'll post a range report as soon as I can.

A local shop has a 4" full shroud I've been looking at but I don't much care for the 4" and would much prefer a 3" which balances perfectly to me in my .32 H&R version. I'd never seen a short shroud version and I kind of like that one. Pity they quit making them.

Nice snag! Looks very well cared for, hang on to that one. If you paid anywhere near what I think I see on that green piece of paper you got a heck of a deal too.

I called Ruger a few weeks ago, asked if they planned on bringing back the SP101 in .22 as currently pictured with specs on their recently updated web page. The person I spoke with said they have plans to do so at this time and was unaware of any plans to do so in the future. Figured she'd say that, but had to ask. Guess I'll keep closer tabs on Gone-Broker from now on.

Wish I paid what was on the green tag. Still, I don't think I did too badly.

Even if I had, I don't think I could wear that gun out if I tried. Hell, my great- grandkids could probably learn to shoot with it.
