Just bought my 2nd RSB with the 10 1/2 inch barrel. It is a late 1979 shipping origin. Beautiful Blue, just like my last one that I sold and regretted ever since. A hog hunter talked me out of it. At the time I was thinking 480 Ruger or 454 Casull. So when the Lipsy Bisley edition 454 Casull came out, I bought one having already fired 6 rounds thru a Super Redhawk. I knew it was a stout caliber but I handload and can load milder rounds. The only thing was that the bisley trigger guard design has a painful index finger hit sometimes when firing. And finding grips for a bisley left me no option but to sell it. I have a Pachmayer grip on my RSB and can shoot the very hottest rounds available. This thing is amazing. I can hit clays slightly more than 100 yards away at my range most of the time. I am going to crono it soon against my Redhawk and a 8 3/8 S&W 629. I had an increase last time of over 150 fps with some loads. It seems that heavy hot loads increase in velocity difference than light slow loads.Lovin this Ruger IMG_0703.jpg IMG_0708.jpg

Love the SBH and are really cool guns with that barrel length. I just made a holster for one a couple weeks ago.

That's quite a bit of gun. Hey, if you injure yourself while out hunting it can do double duty as a cane to help you hobble home. :D

Just funnin'. I bet it's great for hunting with that looong sight radius.

My SBH is on the other end of the spectrum. Mine is a 4 5/8" model. lol
I do like the longer barrels as well though. I wouldn't mind picking one up in the future, but there are a few in line ahead of it.

For a 1979 gun, that thing doesn't look to have been shot all that much.
Great looking gun.

That looks like quite a handful.

My SBH’s are both shorter than yours but accurate shooters. I am confident taking shots with the scoped one at 100+ yards.

Both are .44 Magnum

Looks like a factory mistake. . . someone screwed a rifle barrel onto that poor revolver! Should have at least put a forward sling swivel on it. . .

I can hit clays slightly more than 100 yards away at my range most of the time.
That's shooting! Any idea what your vertical is vs up close?

@ilgac, what model scope is that?
I'm considering one for my NM Blackhawk in .45 Colt to set it up for whitetail hunting. I like the compact look of yours. I hate when scopes on pistols are as long as the darn pistol itself. lol

I’ve had that scope on there over 20 years. It is a Leupold M8 2X in a three ring TSOB mount installed by SSK Industries.

Rugged scope in a rugged mount.

I wondering if anyone has one of 480 Ruger SBH and what their appraisal of it is, i own a 480 Ruger SRH.

I have one with a 6 1/2-inch barrel and one with the 4 5/8-inch barrel. Enjoy both very much. However, as far as hunting revolvers are concerned, the SRH is a hard design to beat.
