Hey All,
I am currently obsessed with getting a Ruger Sheriff, chambered in .44 Special (the only chambering they made it in)

Any experiences with one?

For those of you who hand load...what is a mid-powered loading for .44 Special? (for range use)?

Love to hear any experiences with the Sheriff model!

I've got one. It is very accurate, a real one-hole gun. I sometimes take it on hiking outings. Sort of a specialized gun, but a fun one. Many holsters for 4" N-frames will fit it well enough.

You can also get the same size and 3.75 barrel in .45 colt with a birds head grip, FWIW.

I have the bright stainless 3.75 inch barrel in 45 Colt. I believe it too is billed as a Sheriff model. Shoots nicely and sits in hand well.

I carry the .45 Colt version. It's a pleasure to shoot with a 255 bullet and 5.4 of Tightgroup. The hotter loads start to hurt a little bit.

Yep got one they're great. Love the Skeeter load 7 to. 7.5gr of unique and a 240gr LSWC.

Yeeeehaaaaaa!
Thanks guys, for posting about both the new Vaquero Birdshead and the 44 Sheriff's model!

It is actually the new Vaquero birdshead model in 45ACP that got me interested in a new Vaquero.

I like the idea of the vaq that is chambered in 45ACP, simply because I do not yet reload ammo...and the ACP is WAY cheaper than 44 Spec or 45LC.

But....I can get a Sheriff's model for about 100 bucks cheaper...and part of me likes the old plow-handle grip better than a birdshead....

Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!
I will surely post when I have purchased one or the other......
