I just got a new Vaquero Sheriff's model from Ruger. It is a very cool revolver but I cannot find any info on the net on this particular model. It is like it hardly ever existed. Does Ruger pull all info on discontinued items or what?

Is that a new model or an old model vaquero? I have 2 old model bisleys with the 3&3/4 inch barrel. I believe they were a limited run as they didn't sell well.

If its a 45LC. It is a KBNV-453I. There were 2 variationsof thisgun made. The first is in the serial # range 57-72495 to 57-81447. Apx. 1000 of these were made for Davidson's.

The next were a special order from Lipsey's. They were in the range of 57-40712 to 57-46891. These were shipped with a special shortened cylinder base pin. Still a production number of 1000.

Hope that helps

There were 500 of these produced in 2001.
That just makes me sad...thinking this poor baby has been sitting cold and alone somewhere all these years waiting for me to come get him.

It was made in 2001 or at least that was when it was test fired. 10 JUL 01 according to the little envelope with the casing. Hard to believe these things sit this long unsold.

Ok, I just picked up one of these, but the s/n doesn't fit in the ranges given above.

It is .45 Colt and looks exactly like the photo in the first post.

KBNV-453-I
s/n 58-681xx
Model 00529

If anyone has further ideas on which special run this belongs, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks,

I have the "Old New Model" Sheriff's Vaquero in .357. 3-3/4" or so barrel, and the cylinder base pin that looks more like a nail. SN is in the 58-06xxx range. (Bigger frame & longer cylinder than the 50th Year .357 Blackhawk)

These were the very first "Sheriff's Model" Vaqs done, and had XR3-RED grip frames. Subsequent Sheriffs had Bird's Head grips.

This gun has sorta made a comeback with the Montado, a New Vaq with a short barrel, standard New Vaq grip frame and an SBH hammer. Because the lock won't fit inside a Bird's Head grip frame (no room) we can assume the BH grip is dead forever.

I just traded one exactly like the one shown in the OP for a birdshead model with the same barrel length. The balance of the short barrel with the birdshead just seems better to me. I carry that little sucker concealed sometimes and the rounded back edge of the grip frame seems to be less noticeable and more compact to me. Great little guns and LOVE that barrel length.
