Ok, getting a new O/U 12 guage. 28" barrel. Will be a general purpose 12 ga. Hunting, Trap, Skeet, etc..

Have narrowed it down to either a Ruger Red Label or CZ Redhead Deluxe.

The big difference is the price. THe CZ will be about $750 while the Ruger is about $1150. I don't mind paying more for the Ruger if it is that much better quality. The Rugers seem a little heavier. The fit and finish on both are really nice. The wood on the CZ is really nice. The ruger seems a lot easier to open and close, more smooth. While the CZ is really stiff. WHich one will also be more durable in the long run?

I also noticed the Rugers have a single locking lug on the bottom, while the CZs have 2 locking lugs. Is this a big difference?

Well, appreciate your comments, opinions, and suggestions.

Thanks.

I'm going to have to say Ruger, even though I have a little Huglu SxS that is a nice little gun, I don't think they would hold up to tens of thousands of rounds, but they might surprise you. My Huglu/Armsco, which CZ is importing now under their name, has awful triggers, and no one will work on them, but is a fun gun none the less.

I had the Ruger and put about 80 thousand rounds through it, it went back to Ruger twice for warrenty work, about 40,000 and 60,000 rounds. They had it back to me within 3 weeks both times, all I had to do is pay the initial shipping to them and they put in the parts and shipped it back to me free. I sold it because I needed the funds at the time, but have a Ruger in 28ga now that I play with.

I think the extra 2 or 3 hundred for the Ruger would be best in the long run, that's only 6 or 8 cases of shells. ;)

You can also check out Dehaan Shotguns. He sells Huglu shotguns that are made for him under a seperate contract, they are suppose to be better quailty than the standard fare. Through, I have heard good things about CZs too. Through I would recommend the Ruger do to the warranty and resale value.

Well, I've got to say Red Label. What else would I say. I have seen pictures of the CZ but thats all. I know CZ makes some pretty nice rifles. I can't say enough about the Ruger though. I've had mine now for 4 years and It hasn't glitched on me yet. all guns seem to develop problems after thousands of rounds but like the guy at the gun store told me when I made my choice. The guys at the range who shoot Red Labels are sitting on the back of their pickups drinking beer after the shoot. The other guys are sitting on the back of their trucks working on their guns! This particular guy shoots a lot of registered targets and sees a lot of different clubs so I respected his opinion and I haven't been sorry! :D :D :D

I would go with thr Ruger. I have a couple of them and have had hardly any problems, not that the CZ isnt a good gun, but the REdlabel will most likely hold it value better in event of resale.
