HEADLINE: RUSSIA OFFERS NEW PISTOL FOR SALE, WHILE USA DENIES ENTRY TO ITS DESIGNERS

BODY:

Presenter Some Russian gunsmiths are not allowed to visit the United States over suspicions of having contacts with Arab terrorists. Vasiliy Gryazev and Arkadiy Shipunov, weapon design engineers from Tula, have been banned from entering the USA.

Correspondent Roman Osin Before the new GSh-18 pistol was invented, the famous Makarov pistol had been the main weapon of the Russian army and police. It has been manufactured in Tula for a long time and viewed as the best handgun in the world. However, good old Makarov is helpless against modern means of individual protection. Gryazev, captioned as design engineer and Hero of Socialist Labour The Russian criminal world is using foreign pistols that are more powerful than Makarov. This was giving them an advantage over our relevant structures.

Correspondent This inspired Vasiliy Gryazev and Arkadiy Shipunov, famous weapon design engineers from Tula, to develop a new generation pistol, GSh-18. The letters are their initials, and 18 is the number of cartridges for which pistol's magazine is intended.

A pistol with an empty magazine weighs just 570 g, almost twice less than other handguns of this class. Virtually all bullet-proof vests are useless against it.

The 9-mm pistol has been tested by police and Justice Ministry units prison guards . This is a target hit by Deputy Justice Minister Gen Lvov.

It is especially important for police detectives that one can carry a GSh-18 in his pocket without being worried by accidental fire, as the pistol has an automatic safety device.

Gryazev We dare to say that this pistol is the most powerful and at the same time the lightest and simplest in the world.

Correspondent The GSh-18 pistol will be also issued to all army officers. Meanwhile, it has been highly evaluated abroad. Some Arab countries have already ordered small batches. For this very reason, the creators of the pistol have become unwanted persons in America.

Hmmm handle looks alot like a broomhandel mauser....

Funky looking thing tho. If it shoots straight, is smallish, and light weight at 600grams....might not be a bad little gun. Looks like the bore axis is pretty low too. so that might help it

No way....My steyr aint that baby's daddy.

And my ruger aint that baby's mommy...

That is one ugly baby.

If their price & quality are comparable to a Makarov, that would be a great pistol.

I don't think it's all that ugly (of course, I like the looks of my P-89 :uhoh: )

just 2 cents more:
1. the Gryazev & Shipunov are not just the pistol designers, they are known for the whole line of automatic cannons, including famous GSh-23 2barreled 23mm aircraft gun, the GSh-23-6 gatling type gun that puts the M61 Vulcan to shame, and the whole lotta of other nice equipment. The Shipunov is the director of KBP, one of the leading Russian Armament R&D companies...

I think that there's nothing to do with terrorists, just attempt to compromise Russia on the world arms market...

back to topic, the GSh-18 is very accurate gun, according to my frient who fired it many times and is a very good shooter. Also quite reliable. Ergonomics and finish is somewhat rough, but what else you can expect from Russian military arm?

i kinda like it

although i would call it the bastard child of a P99 and a Hi-Power.

looks kinda neat, looks as if the bolt is removable from the slide, and the barrel has 2 sets of locking lugs on it.

hell, if it will feed those wierd looking ugly little bullets fine, it would probably feed anything.

odd little pistol, but i'd probably own one if they let me.

dont really understand why its not allowed in, seems it would work fine with regular 9mm ammo as well. i guess people tend to frown on ammo that pierces kevlar.

whatever, not like gun laws/resrictions have ever made sense.

Don't get me wrong. I have a Ruger P97 and love it. I actually think it is a pretty attractive pistol too.

Now as for this abomination. It looks like a horribly melted Ruger.

It may be a great gun. 18 rounds and light weight is nice but sheeeesh that is one fugly gun.

Interesting gun. Looks like it'd have a pretty low bore axis. It'd be fun to have one, but I doubt that it'd happen. Russian firearms (with the exception of a few sporting guns) are banned from US import by executive order.
