A few years ago I was in this hole in the wall gunship that no longer exists and they had this odd little Russian 22 semi auto. I should have bought it then, but I was talked out of it. Anyone have any idea or info on what rifle I am talking about? It was sort of a odd rifle, but I always wished I would have spent the $100 and bought it....

Could it have been a Korshun?

The the stock actually holds spare magazines. They are cool but definitely a little odd.

No, but that is pretty awesome! I have only seen this one example, and I have never seen a Korshun, though I now want one. Lol, who knew that Russian 22 rifles were so interesting!

Gevarm?

TOZ 99 is it! I've some research to do now, but the one that I passed up was in very good shape and it was only 100 bucks. No clue if that was a screaming deal, average or over priced, but now I can do the research. Plus, that Korshun is awful interesting. If my memory serves, there is a TOZ bolt action. .22, right?

As an aside, I somewhat fascinated by my attraction to Russian firearms. Good or bad, I just seem to find a weird connection with them that I seem to miss out on with guns from any other place. Even more interesting, despite them being inexpensive more often than not, I own exactly two real Russian rifles, a Mosin and a Saiga, plus a WASR which isn't really Russian but close enough for my purposes.

After two minutes of research, I should have bought it as it turns out. $250 seems to be the average price. Darn it.

I've got a Soverign or something like that. It's a semi auto cast aluminum receiver. Never paid much attention to it.

Don't buy a Toz. A guy was posting here a few months ago said the bolt handle constantly broke off due to a design flaw that causes it to whip back and forth every time the rifle fires. People analyzed it and basically determined it couldn't be permanently fixed.

There is a straight-pull bolt action called the Sobol. I like the look of that one, and haven't heard anything negative about it.

The 'flaw' is that only subsonic or standard velocity ammunition can be used. Using high velocity or higher rounds will cause the bolt and charging handle assembly to slam into the receiver. It's prominently shown in the owner's manual. If someone batters their rifle to pieces by not using the proper ammunition (and there are plenty who have) I have little sympathy for them.
