Which Russian ammo has the lacquered shells which can really gum up a gun's chamber and create a serious problem? Is this lacquer the same as "polymer"? Many people claim shell coating cause a steel-cased shell to jam in a very tight chamber compared to the rest (i.e. in a Mini 30 etc).

How about Russian Golder Tiger?
And Russian "Barnaul" states that cases are zinc/nickel. Are they coated with anything? The lowest-priced Yugo x39 ammo appears to have no coating on it.

Wondering whether "Ammoman's" rounds are new or decades old.

if it is that crap colored steel case, and it has a shiny coating appearance, that is lacquer. the nickel washed stuff is just that, i use it all the time.

I'd bet if it's E. Euro it's lacquered. Russian can be lacquer (green), polymer (gray), Zinc (silver), or copper (gold).

And it's not the lacquer on the steel case that melts, in fact a blow torch can't melt that, it's the neck sealent that can possibly cause issues. I've never had an issue using lacquer Barnual in ARs and my friend didn't have issues using lacquer 7.62 in his Mini 30 (well except for the hard primers).

Thank you.

If you had never seen or used a shell extractor (or any other gun tool), and wanted to avoid needing to use it, yet wanted to buy the lowest cost 7.62x39 ammo, would the Yugo ammo be quite safe for the Mini 30? It is definitely advertised on a popular site (with 24-hour sales) as brass-cased.

I'm still not very experienced with many guns compared to most of you guys/gals, having taken up the hobby last October (350 rounds with .30 carbine, 300+ Mini .223 and 250 with Mosins...+ .22). From 1966-1985, only used ancient Savage .22 bolt-action a limited number of times.

To clarify, Yugo ammo is brass-shell as advertised?
Your advice and suggestions are much appreciated.

Here's an assortment of brass cased and plated steel cased ammo.
