What caliber is this rifle? I think Ihad one in 7.62x54. It was an onld sniper rifle that I had with a fold out bayonet that had a bolt that the lever opend up top and I had no way to mount a scope. kicked like a mule too. Thanx Travis
There are two way to mount a scope on a Mosin Nagant that I know of:
1. Buy a mount that fits into the ears of the rear sight and mount a long eye relief scope to it.
2. Buy a kit that drills the receiver and mounts a weaver type base and mount a regular eye relief scope. This also requires a turned down bolt so that the bolt will clear the scope. There are kits for this modification as well. or if you are really good with a TIG welder you could probably modify the scope yourself.....but be careful not to get the bolt so hot that the temper of the metal is changed.
I did number 2 and it works well. Didn't know about number 1, wish I had used the long eye relief scope so as not to have made a permanent change to the rifle.
Check on eBay, AuctionArms, and GunBroker. Try typing in "LER" or "EER" (extended eye relief) as a keyword.
To find a mount that replaces the rear sight (which is a temporary change easily converted back, so doesn't destroy collector value), it's been discussed here on THR extensively, so you can track it down using the Search engine.
The K-31, 91/30 and M-38 mounts are in stock. He's sold out of the M-39 mounts but will be making more.
Keep in mind this is just a side business for him. Each mount is custom made from high-grade aluminum. I've only had one problem mounting his rig, due to an unusual hybrid sight on one of my Finns. The M-39 mounts in particular are rock hard and require no bolstering.
Cosmoline, the wood on that k31 looks killer!!! Was that just a clean up job or did you do any refinishing? If mine turns out half that good I'll be very happy indeed.
