I just got a new russian sks and have some questions. The bolt and bayonet are not black, they are chrome. All of the numbers are matching. Its a CDI Swan, VT Import with the CCCP serial number on it. On back right side of the stock is a small square with a diagonal line through it, the same stamp is on the top cover. The only russian mark that I am familiar with from Mosins is the tula star. It has a star on the left side of the receiver about parallel with the bolt handle when it is slammed forward.

I was told that the diagonal lined square is a refurb mark, but I was also told that the refurbs had black bolts and bayonets.

The stock is not laminate. Its more of a deep red, nothing like a yugo sks, a lot darker.

Any info/help on knowing if its a refurb or not would be grateful. Thanks!

It's a refurb but without pics no telling what year or what arsenal produced it. I'm not an expert. Outside a few pics taken in combloc countries I've never seen a Russian with black bolt and bayonet unless some owner painted them himself. I can't tell you more than that w/out pics but it sounds like you got a nice one.

Only some refurbs had black bolts and bayonets. Many were also in the white. I'm not sure of the proportions, but I've seen both, as well as black bolt and bright bayonet and vice versa.

Russian SKS are supposed to have white bolts and bayonets.......That is a 400 dollar rifle. Don't do anything stupid with it........enjoy.....chris3
