RXP-12 wad clone

My favorite recipe for my 12 gauge (Saiga-12 w/MD Arms 20 round drum)
is
Remington STS Hull
23.5g Unique
Winchester 209 or Cheddite 209 primer
#6 Chilled Lead shot
RXP-12 wad

My gun club has these Downrange wads (much cheaper than the RXP12 wads) and I am being told this figure 8 wad is a direct replacement for the RXP12. When it comes to shotgun loading I rarely stray from the published load.....is there any thoughts on this figure 8 being a replacement for the rxp12? The RXP12's are becoming hard to find.....I heard (read on the internet so it must be true) Remington replaced them with their fig 8 anyway.

IMO The RXP works better for 1oz loads and the Fiq 8 is good for 1 1/8oz. I've used both but I've become a Downrange XL guy - XL-1 and XL-1/8, same ballistics as the WAA12 and WAA12SL works in both Rem and Win hulls with the same load data. Back to the Fig 8, you might get slightly dished crimps using the Fig 8 in replacement of the RXP12.

That is very helpful. I load a few loads utilizing the WAA12 and will try this downrange wad out. It is a 1/3 of the price of Rem @ the gun range.

How much #6 shot?

If you are using Unique with anything less then a 1 1/4 oz load, there are way better powders out there.

That's exactly what I was thinking, unless somehow the Saiga really favors a slow powder..

The Saiga will not/rarely cycles "game loads". It is setup as a military shotgun mainly for buckshot and slugs. Gas issues. The Unique loads cycle 100% reliably so I just use the #6 and the Unique loads.
The #6 loads with the 1 1/8 Lee bushing throws 454 grains of shot (under 1 1/8 oz) so that is what I have been using. And I have a bunch of it.
They shoot great and make a total mess out of coons and possums.
It is the only shotgun I own so I just load what makes it happy.
The RF12 and RXP 12 Remington wads are internet/shipping only these days and the local gun range has mountains of these Downrange wads is the reason I am asking about all this.
