I normally load for 12 ga. on a MEC 9000, with STS hulls, Cheddite primers and Red Dot powder. A friend recently gave me about 800 Purple PC wads. I don't seem to find any loads for that wad. I think they are for a 1 oz. load (which is what I now use for trap) but I'm not finding any to use the hulls or powder or primers I have. I want to stay with STS hulls, I have Red Dot, E3, long shot and .410 powders (plus some pistol that may serve double duty). For primers I have the Cheddite 209, Win 209 in quantity, and a few hundred in CCI, and Rem 209.
Does anyone have some old data for the now obsolete PC Purple wad that will use the components I have. For 800 wads it's not worth getting any new components that will just collect dust after I use up those wads.
Any help will be appreciated.

Ok, I have some old published data here.

These are 1.0 oz. loads.

Hull - STS
Red Dot - 18.5 gr.
Primer- Rem. 209P
Wad- Purple PC
8,300 psi
1,200 fps
Dram - 2.75

Hull- STS
Red Dot - 19.5 gr.
Primer - Rem 209P
Wad - Purple PC
8,900 psi
1,255 fps
Dram- 3.0

Hull- STS
Red Dot- 20.5 gr.
Primer- Rem 209P
Wad- Purple PC
9,100 psi
1,290 fps
Dram- 3.25

That's about all I can find for the moment. I confirmed these under Alliant in "The complete reloading manual for the 12 ga. shotshell" book.

Thanks,
We moved a while back and have not finished unpacking (it's only been 2 1/2 years:). I have not yet located some of my reloading manuals. Likely the Lyman 4 or my Hogden would have some loads but alas, they are temporarily mis- located.
I think I only have 100 Rem 209 primers. I guess I can try those. I used them for a long time until the primer market dried up a few years back. After that the first I found was Cheddite 209, and I bought 15,000 of those, then about a yr or so ago I caught a deal on 5000 Win. 209's. I haven't gotten back into Rem 209's yet. The 100 or so I have were left when I got the Cheddites and I liked how they worked in STS hulls so I stuck with them.

Thanks again.

I'll take another look at the recipes and see if there may some foot notes that allow for other primers. Cause the only variation between the loads using a different primer, is the wad. But as you are likely aware, shotshell recipes are very component specific, so that may not be the case.

Thanks gamestalker. Another issue might be the fact that PC purple have been out of production a long time and I wanted to use primers that were likely not being used in the US when PC Purples were in use. I'll wait to see if you find any other recipes.

It shouldn't be a problem as long as you are using standard primers and not magnum. Cheddites are metric which are slightly larger than US sized and they can stretch the primer pocket enough that US primers can be loose in the pocket. Everyone I know switches primers for target loads all the time to reflect what is available.
