I have had 4 XD9 pistols and still have one. I never had one break or fail. I keep hearing and reading about people having failures all the time but no one ever gets into detail what the problem is. I know at first there were a lot of rust issues and then roll pin breakages on the striker. But all that is resolved now. Are there anymore faults or weaknesses ? Everytime I or some other owner mentions an XD all you hear is negative comments but no one gives detailed reports.
just to be clear I am talking about the fullsize XD9 Service models generation 1 and 2 . Not the slim models and the others like XDS and such.

I have the subcompact model and haven't had an issue.I know it's not the same as yours but both my Springfield's (xde) have been great. If you aren't having any problems then ignore comments from hater's and other ill informed gun owners.Enjoy what you have.

I have an XD-40 from 2005, rusts when you look at it wrong, and yet it has nearly 40,000 rounds through it. It's been a tank of a handgun for me seeing lots of use as my Limited-10 handgun in USPSA for many seasons.

Generally it's social media hate for all XD. At least what I see. Much of it centers around hating on the owners and stereotyping the people who shoot them. They like them into the same category as Taurus or Tapco SKS shooters. Right or wrong.

There was also all the initial failures years ago on the XDS.

And some gun trainer came out and said he had evidence of every XD failing in all of his classes. He's the one that's always cited as Gospel for XD hate.

Plus, SA reputation politically didn't help from a few years ago

Dont know anything about the XD's but I own 3 XDm's in 9 (OSP 4.5":), .40 (full size) and 10MM (5.25"). They're my top performers accuracy-wise against contenders such as the P320, G22, G19 and have much larger Magazines than my USP 40 and 40C with, so far, equal reliability. The factory sights aren't throwaway, their 'match' stamped on the side of the barrel is no BS and you have to love the mag capacities in their full sized versions. I would say triggers are a bit above average but they're just an overall better package than most contenders.

Ok awesome. I guess it is just a bunch of haters. I've even worn mine against my skin while bush-hogging in the summer with sweat and all and still no rust. Several rounds through it and no failures. Thanks for the replies you guys.

I have a XDm 9mm. It has had 1000s of rounds through it without a failure. It functions properly with any ammunition and it's probably my most reliable hand gun. I own many pistols, and it's what I keep by my bed side.

I think people like to group-think too much. There are probably people ragging on the XD, Glock, SIG, Taurus or any gun brand who have never even held one on their hand.

I no longer own but have owned.......
-HS2000 (XD’s granpappy :))......replaced an extractor due to issues with WWB. Never a problem after that.

-XD45 Compact- bedside gun for many years. Very good gun. Mag springs would weaken a bit quickly but overall good gun.

-XD45 Mod 2 Compact - mine didn’t like steel cased stuff and I would inadvertently activate the slide lock some times.

All were good guns. None were GREAT guns.

I have five XD/XDm handguns.

Started with an XD45 4". I put several thousand rounds through it box stock without any failures. Then bought an XD45 compact for carry. Same result. Then a XD45 tactical for fun (and because it was a smoking deal). Ditto. Tens of thousands of rounds total...yea, I reload.

Decided to buy a 9mm version for lost-brass training classes. XD9 4". And just recently an XDm9 5.25". Same result through many thousands of rounds...

...except...

...one time I was getting ready for a class and a buddy convinced me to clean both of the 9mm guns in his sonic cleaner. Bad idea! At the class, after a hundred rounds or so, both started to stovepipe and fail to eject. I put on more oil than I normally do after cleaning, and both have been their boringly reliable selves since.

My normal cleaning is fieldstrip, a wipe down of external surfaces with solvent, clean the trigger mechanism with a toothbrush, oil lightly, and reassemble. Occasionally remove and clean the striker assembly and loaded chamber indicator. The sonic detergent bath stripped all lube away and the guns didn't like it.

Lesson learned, with a really easy fix.

Other than that one experience, zero failures through lots of hard use, regardless of what internet commandos say.

Before I carried my G48 I carried my Xds9. If my G48 was somehow unavailable I'd go back to my Xds9 without a second thought.

I bought an XDm9 used awhile back. It had been used heavily by a local competitor. It was being sold because the gun shop offered to build the guy a Glock to replace it. I don't know exactly how many rounds he put through it but it sure looks like it was a lot! It has yet to fail me, but I don't shoot it all that much.

A friend has been hammering an XD like that in USPSA Production with good results.
For some reason, he has recently been debauched by Glock and is in the throes of temptation by CZ. I think the latter is the heavy gun fad in Production and Carry Optic. 59 oz weight limit.

I had an XD-40 Service from 2007 until about a year and a half ago. It was accurate & worked well. I sold it after I bought a M&P 2.0 40 Compact a couple of years ago. I never really had a problem with it & honestly thought about keeping it around but I sold it and a Taurus PT111 G2 so I could even my money up after I bought the S&W. I just like the Smith better.
