I basically want any helpful info on Springfield

Although called Springfield U.S.A. isn't that simply ad importer and all are made in Kroatia?

Springfield 1911s are one of the least expensive quality 1911s?

Now this may just be isolated to my experiences but i always hear of people owning the XD40 i rarely hear of the XD9 now maybe nothing to it but from my hearing the XD40 gets more props over 9 so i was curious

Is the XDm the smallest XD?

My wife likes the XDs back grip safety but i was wondering with that extra moving part has it caused in failurers or breakage/problems ect.?

Thanks

Springfield Armory is based in the USA. They import the XD from Kroatia. Their 1911's range from GI(affordable) to Custom shop(expensive). They make it all. IMO, SA builds a good production 1911 and their custom shop builds one of the best custome 1911's on the market. Yes, some of their 1911's are made in Brazil but they are still of good quality .

They're several diff xd models from compact to tactical. The compact is the smallest. I'm not an expert of the xd line so maybe someone more versed with the xd will chime in and give you some info on them. I do know the xdm is a diff version of the standard xd. (looks diff, feels diff.)

The XDs are made in Croatia and most of the 1911s are made out of the US as well however their higher end stuff is assembled here in the good ol USA.

Springfield GI/Mil SPec models are their base model 1911 and they go for about 5-600 dollars. Their loaded models start at about 800 dollars and the other models such as the TRP are around 1500 dollars. I find the Loaded models to be comparable to the other brands of 1911 in price and features. I own a loaded model and find most of the features to be more comparable to a Kimber Custom II.

I own an XD45 I really don't think one XD caliber excels over the other I have shot the XD 40 and found the quality to be the same as my XD45 I am sure that is the case for the XD9.

Is the XDm the smallest XD?

The XDm is a whole other pistol from the XD series the main differences is the XDm has a match grade barrel and adjustable backstraps. As for the size the XDms are pretty large full size guns.

I have not heard of any problems with the XD grip safety it is basically the same style of a 1911 grip safety and we all know the 1911 grip safety has proven reliable over the years.

The XD Sub Compact is the smallest and it comes in both the 9mm and the .40 S&W.

The XD 9 is just as good as the .40 In fact the whole XD line is excellent IMO.

Of course I'm biased as I have an XD9HC (High Capacity) and an XD .40 Sub Compact.

I recently parted with an XD .40 Tactical w/ the 5" barrel. I traded it off for an AR-15.

The XDM comes with high capacity mags, a match grade barrel and a slightly improved trigger over the standard XD's and has adjustable back straps.

If I'm not mistaken the smallest XD in .45 is a compact, no sub compact is available yet.

Haven't heard about any rust issues, at least not with the new ones.

The XD40 is a good all-around .40 cal firearm, and affordable. Two popular calibers are .45 and 9mm, so there are a number of affordable guns made in either of these, and if you look at SIG as an example, a few of their guns are only offered in 9mm. And most 1911's are only offered in .45 when purchased new.

The XD40 is, as I feel, one of the better .40 caliber handguns out there. I can't think of something else in that price range that I'd go for, except perhaps a used Beretta.

The XDm is the match-grade gun of the XD line. Whereas most XD's have a 4" barrel, the XDm has a 4.5" barrel, along with different sets of interchangeable grips, and other differences which I'm not fully familiar with. A friend of mine uses his XDm (9mm) in IDPA competitions, and does incredibly well. Of course, that's probably him, but a problem-plagued or inaccurate gun wouldn't have made it along with him as far as he got in the competition (state championship).

The compact is the smallest.
It's worth noting that under Springfield Nomenclature, "Compact" refers to their full size .45 acp guns with a shorter grip. These have 4" or 5" barrels. The Sub-Compact is MUCH smaller, with a 3" barrel and a much shorter grip. It's close to the same size as the Glock 26.
