After months of frustrating unfruitful local search for my "ideal" 10mm, a used S&W 1006 (reputable brand and CS, all steel construction, full power 10mm capability, DA/SA) I decided to dip my toes in the internet ocean and I did some research on gunsamerica.com, gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com.

The few 1006 listed were way overpriced compared to the Blue Book, they had no bids except for one "suspicious" listing where there were several bids which I suspected were fake bids to pump up the price.

I tried to contact the sellers either by e-mail or phone to try to negotiate a reasonable price and what I got was pretty much a "I do not care to sell" attitude, "this is the price", "try your luck bidding", etc...

One particular pistol has been relisted 3 times (my bid at $600 was below the unpublished reserved price) with no other bids other than mine.

I have to say that so far I'm not impressed with this crowd and you know what?? It's not like is bread, I do not need to buy...but I'm surprised how unreasonable people are, I have better luck negotiating prices with local stores.

Regards

saturno_v,

I've had much the same experience that you have. I like the "old" S&W four digit series automatics and have had an eye on the market for a 1006.

Those who have them are either not selling them ('cause they really like them and who can blame 'em) or are willing only to part with them for a small fortune when you can find one in near new condition. Those asking such stiff prices will either find the buyer they've been waiting for  , if you know what I mean, or drop their prices eventually.

Although they are not what I was in the market for, I am most likely gonna purchase a Glock 20, have done with it and rest assured that I have a high quality gun that is every bit as durable as the 1006 with Glock's excellent CS to stand behind it.

Just a thought...

Good luck.

"But honey ... no one wants to buy it!"
:p

To join Gunbroker you have to give them credit card, upon which they charge $1 to keep on account. This is the account to which they will charge seller's fees. Maybe you don't want to be a seller, but that's the only way they let you join so you can bid on things.

Well, as long as they forced you to put money on that account, you might as well list something for a Hail Mary price. Who knows, some unknowledgable squid may actually pay that much for it!!! Woo Hoo, it would be an early Christmas indeed!!!

Most of those auctions are anything but an auction. With a starting bid at say 499.99 and a buy now at 500.oo.LOL.

I respet Glock for their quality but I do not really like them (no DA/SA, plastic, striker fired, etc..) I been close to buy a Glock 20 twice but eventually I could not do it...

colt delta elite it back on the market

Even here, no DA/SA

How much were you willing to spend? $600 is the going price.

$650 top with shipping (I have to pay FFL too, $30 around here) even with few scratches here and there.

Blue Book list them just a hair below $600 for NIB conditions which no one of the listed pistol were.

No heartburn here, man. It's your money and your choice, not mine. Gotta buy what fits you. :)

$600 to $700 is the going price for a S&W 1006, at least on Gunbroker.com it is. Remember, it isn't a 5906. Even a 5906TSW will fetch close to $500, however.

You can probably get it cheaper locally in a FTF transaction or likely pay more in a brick & mortar.

If you were referring to the one currently on Gunbroker with about a dozen bids, the current price of $525 hasn't met reserved price. It is also pretty unlikely that the other bidders are "shills" or phantom bids to increase the price. I've purchase a couple of dozen firearms from GB and never have I been swindled or picked up something that wasn't as described. It does happen, but it isn't the norm.

Glad i got mine when i did a year and a half ago. I was in your and a board member in Spokane, WA(i think) showed me a listing for one on a Lewiston, ID website. The guy was asking $500 for it. I immediately called him. He was a sheriff up there and sent the pistol down with some deputies that came to Boise for training. The awesome part was that it came with 6 mags($40 each for used) and Hogue grips. It had less than 300rds through it and was built in '94. the night sights still work :)

Keep your head up man. Dont settle when it comes to guns. Im not a Glock fan. Their G20 did intrigue me but they are blocky as all hell. Its harder for me to reach the trigger on my buddies G22 than it is on my 1006. Its an awesome shooter man. I wouldnt settle on the G20 when looking for a S&W 1xxx series.

Research!

I found my 1076 in the classys right here on THR, ftf with 150 rounds of STs and homebrewed smokin HPs, for $550. Then, I found another one out West in a gun shop listing online, OTD delivered to my FFL for $580. Of course, I have hemmorhoids from sitting in this damnned computer chair! There is nothing like a S&W 3rd Gen. S&W 10mm;1006, 1046, 1066, 1076, or even the 1086. It's like my Grandpa used to say about his Farmall Super Hs/Ms or his John Deere 50s; they ain't gonna make em like that anymore.

I also found my 1076 in the classifieds here. I swapped a very nice SS Ruger GP100 for it a couple of years ago.

We were both happy with the transaction.

The dollar is to verify that you are who you claim to be, second; it is refunded

My suggestion is to place I Want To Buy Ad on the S&W forum. State what you are looking for condition wise, extra mags., box etc. I almost guarantee you will find one .........where it is the price you are willing to pay remains to be seen.

I sold a pristine 1006 with no box or papers for 625. That is the going rate. No one forces anyone to bid on Gunbroker and Gunbroker sellers generally do not negotiate price. Gunsamerica sellers sometimes do. I negotiated shipping costs on two guns that I bought. The reality is, S&W doesn't make 1006's anymore, so the supply is finite. The demand is high, so the price will follow accordingly.

Paid $499 for my 1006 in Palm Harbor, FL last year on 1st weekend of March. It was 100% condition, and the only reason I know it was used was because it was sold as such. Shop around.

Sixteen months ago I sold my 1006 "locally" through an auction business that also has its sales on line. Mine, c/w 4 mags, IIRC, and with some hinky aftermarket work--an extended slide release and a target sight--went for $660.00, IIRC.

Like the others guys said, unless you rummage about and have contacts, the going price is, AFAICT, at least $650.00. IMO, it's worth it--if you like S&W ergonomics.

That pistol has been re-listed 3 times already.

I bid once a $600 and it was the reserved price.

Yes, way too pricey.
