Went to my local gun shop today looking for a 10MM. He had two, a NIB EAA 10MM Witness Elite for $500 and a used(well used) S&W 1066 for $600.

I'm gunna ask, Which one is the way to go? New Cheapy or a well used S&W?

There is nothing cheap about the EAA Elite except the price --- I have both a 10mm and a 38Super Elite Match --- I also got a conversion brl. in .40S&W for the 10mm and a 9m/m brl. for the .38 Super.
Both of my Elites are as accurate as any Colt Gold Cup or custom Jimmy Clark PinMaster.
ALso -- both hold almost double in the mags then what the S&W 10mm does.
Don't get me wrong --- I also have/owned Colt Delta Elites and S&W 10MMs --------- FOR the price , you will not find a better firearm then the EAA Witness Elite Match series of pistols.

BTW --- that group is a 10rd. group , standing , two hand hold timed in under 5 seconds with a Pro Timer.

What are you going to be using the firearm for?? because that matters to some people and they are going to ask. the only advise i can give is that I have never ever ever ever heard anything bad about the S&W 1006, 4506, 4006 etc. those series or models are well built guns that are seriously good at what they do. with that being said, I cannot bring myself to change platforms from 1911's. mainly the thumb safety, it is ingrained in my head to draw and push safety down. If I could change the safety I would own a bunch of them. Dont make a decision based on what I think, wait for people who have experience with both firearms because I have never even handled an EAA.

Hiya G509,
The safety on the Witness works just like the 1911s.
Also , they are much slimmer and feel better then any of the Para-Ordnances that I have ---- really feels good for a Hi-Cap pistol -- and they just fit my small hands like a single-stack 1911.

As I posted in the link --- I shot 1911s and ParaOrds for many years in IPSC etc. --- I just wished I had tried a Witness before last year !!!

Hey -- G509, are you a SASS/Cowboy shooter also ???

What the Heck --- a photo of my ParaOrds
Top is a .38Super --- middle is a C745 LDA in .45acp --- bottom is a P-14 Limited in .45acp for Stock Class

no, and I dont know what that is. I've shot a lot since I was a little kid, have military experience, and cc everyday, single father of a two year old and I dont have the time for ISPC or idpa or things of that nature. at least not yet
ps. sry to kinda hijack the thread

Hi G,
I also shoot "Cowboy Action" and thought with a "Geronimo" in your name you might be a CB shooter ---- I'm also sorry for grtting off topic { I do that a lot my wife says} !!!!
Take care and talk again,

I has an EAA in .45 for a while. A buddy was off in Marine Corps basic training left his gun with me temporarily. It is basicly a beefed up CZ 75. It fits the hand perfectly. I got a chance to play with it over the Christmas holliday and tried to buy it when he came home. No sale. I am thinking of buying one when I get the chance. It was a nice pistol and the grip angle and controls are familiar to anyone who owns a 1911.

The S&W 1066 is built like a tank along with all the 3rd gen S&W's. For $600. I'd grab it. They only built 5067 of the model 1066s.

MM6,
That was a good review of the EAA Witness -- the prices were a little outdated but other then that a very good review.
I also can't say enough good things about Bob Mernickle and his holsters. I have three by him -- a custom Cowboy double rig and two custom auto rigs.
While the review was about the "standard" Witness --- I really like the Witness Elite series. The Elite Stock and Elite Match are both Best Buys for the money.
I bought two Elite Match pistols and then put in a double -action fire control in one of them. I use this one for shooting Stock or Production in local Action Matches.

BTW -- are you the author of the review -- the grips in it look like the ones on your pistol ??

I've owned a 1066 & Witness 10mms and I would gladly buy a NIB EAA Elite over a used 1066. Better trigger, safety, mag capacity, grips, sights, availabilty of mags, parts and of course cost.

I have a 10mm full size steel Witness and an identical 45acp Witness with a 22LR conversion kit. They fit my hand perfectly and shoot as good as my Colt 45acp Gold Cup. They have a wonderful trigger - you pull it and it shoots now - not after 1/2 inch like my Ruger P95 or Taurus 24/7 Pro.
