Put this in the wrong place earlier- apologies...

Recently purchased a new to me smith and wesson 1911 pd 5" and while doing a safety check after lubing it in preparation for it's first range session I noticed that the hammer would drop when the grip safety was not pressed.

I have never sent a gun in for warranty work- my question is should I just take it to my local smith or send it back to S&W? What is the realistic turnaround for something like this?

I would let S&W sort it out. They use a non-1911 firing pin obstruction actuated by the grip safety that the company has the tools to tinker with.
