Since there is renewed interest in these sweet discontinued .22s and there hasn't been a response on the old thread for years, time to start a new role call.

Who else out there has a soft spot for these? How do you compare these to the other offerings?

SW622.jpg

I haven't fired this 622 for about five years. Maybe I should dig it out and give it a spin. Nice accuracy, an OK trigger and very light weight as I remember.

I bought my wife a used 2214 about a year ago. She loves it. I've been trying to get her to carry a more powerful gun but its difficult when she shoots it so well.

If I ever find a god 2213 at a good price ill probably get one for my self, too!

I know I've got at least 4 of these. Great little shooters!

These don't appear to have risen in price yet so are still a pretty good deal.

2206

This my 2206. My favorite 22 and would buy many more if I ever found another. Took to bass pro range to shoot several months ago and guy working counter called it the 'Robocop' gun lol.

all black looks finish on 422 is nice and the 622 with woodgrain handles is a beauty.

How did you manage to obtain a threaded barrel? That would be great to have.

EWK Arms sells the adapter to mount a suppressor. They also sell a tool to remove the nut on end of the barrel. Looks pretty easy. Bought a 2214 for that reason. Shot it yesterday. Big fun for a little gun.

Pity they don't want to export one to me here in South Africa. I would love to get hold of this adapter.

I would not mind to get some 12-shot magazines for it as well. It's a sweet shooter if you don't feed it the wrong ammo. Mine does not like Remmington Targets at all. CCi Mini Mags were made for this pistol.

Fot interest sake.
What is a good grouping with these pistol in 6'' barrel size at 10 meters, standing, two handed hold, no support, no rests etc?

Great guns and wish S&W still made them.

The first handgun that I purchased was a S&W 422 Target and it is serial# 20! My money was saved up for a Ruger but when I saw the S&W I had to have it.

Later I purchased a 2206 TGT which was a special edition. All stainless with Millet sights and custom wood grips. It is a tack driver.

I still have both of them and will get pics posted when I get a chance.

Every one of these guns has a threaded barrel Its how the steel barrel is held into the Aluminum frame. Simply removing the barrel nut and replacing it with an adapter designed for a suppressor, and you are in business. These pistols are excellent as a suppressor host, because the barrel is low, and the sights are high. The sights are easily seen over the diameter of the suppressor, plus the light weight Aluminum construction helps keep the weight down when adding the weight of the suppressor.

Mine is all stainless. My son was shooting it one day and the rear sight flew off as it sheared off the tiny screw that held it on almost blinding him in one eye. I called S & W and they were Johnny on the spot to get it and they put a rivet in place of that tiny screw. Be careful of that screw.

I've got a soft spot for them as well, in "73" I bought a S&W 61-3, the Grandfather of all the Smith under barrel .22's. Then (2)422's and (2) 622's and shoot all of them quite a bit. I've had the occasional FTF/FTE with them all but none were the pistols fault.

I pocket carry the Escort for a dash to the store and hardly notice it's there. Every one of them work great with either Blazer or Auto Match. They are light weight, scary accurate and Very reliable guns.

Great guns, wish S&W still made them.I have had a 422 since the late 80s and has been a reliable great little plinker. The 2213/14 are great little compact trail guns, I just don't like the mag safety.
SOTs like these like the above posted pic for a "can" because with the right can you can use the factory sights.

Hi all. I just picked up a like new 4" model 422 with adjustable sites and wood grips. I love this little pistol. It is extremely accurate and feeds and functions with high velocity or sub-sonic ammo. I haven't seen these in years so when I saw this one at my local Ganer mountain store for $179.00, I moved on it. It came with the original box and manual also.

I have questions on this pistol.
Is that the original box and where was that pistol made? Also what material are this grips made of? I have heard of plastic wood imitation grips, but I haven't seen them. All the wood ones I've seen had gold medallions. They originally caught my attention because of the wood grain.

They sure feel like wood grips. I bought it with this case, I therefore do believe it might be the original case. I have no idea where it was built. I will look on the pistol and give feedback.

Hunter if you look above at posts 2 and 5 you will see the wood grips that have the gold medallions I mentioned. If you look at the black grips you'll see the medallion is embossed into the plastic. To check what material yours is made from, I'd suggest carefully removing the two grip screws that hold the grips to the frame and lift off the grip. Look at the back side of the grip and see if it's molded plastic or wood. It should be pretty easy to tell from looking at the back.

I ask about the box because it has been my observation the pistols from the Houlton facility seem to come in the plastic cases while the Springfield made pistols seem to have come in the cardboard boxes. In either instance there was a sticker on the box with a serial number that should match the original firearm that came in that box. Check under the foam if it's not on the outside of the box. The pistol itself should be stamped either Houlton or Springfield.

Thanks for posting this up.

My 6" 422, with adjustable sights and wood grips (with medallions) came in a cardboard box, and is stamped Springfield.

It's a great pistol.

Made in Houlton Maine U.S.A
I always thought the grips is wood, but no, it is synthetic.

Hunter thanks for that information. Very Cool. I haven't seen those synthetic wood grips before. They are nice looking, more durable than the wood, and from my observations, not very common. I also didn't realize that Houlton made any 422s.

Does your box still have the original label with matching serial number? I'd be interested in seeing that label info. I wonder if there were differences in models manufactured for sale outside the US?

Nice 422 there Hunter.

Glad to see so many other happy owners out there.

Wow, you have a good eye for a deal. Mojo is strong on that one. I hope that was good Karma coming back to you. Is it stamped Springfield or Houlton and is the box cardboard or blue plastic?
