F12EB274-DFBB-4974-811E-36078C4E060C.jpeg Well I’ve been thinking about picking up a 44 Special and was searching for a Blackhawk when I came across this beauty and I couldn’t resist. This is a photo from the retailer. I should be getting her this week provided the holiday doesn’t interfere with the mail. I think it should make me a fine target revolver as well as putting a little venison in the freezer. Something about that deep blueing and wood really gets to me.

Yes, nothing wrong with a finely crafted .44 Special revolver.
It's also a good target round I believe.
Any revolver from the mid-20th century is a work of art.

nice pic. would sure like to see more pics and shooting results when you take possession of that fine piece of iron.

welcome to thr,

Howdy

S&W Model 24s are scarce as hen's teeth.

I looked for one for years. I was able to pick up a nice Stainless 624 a few years ago, but finally gave up looking for a Model 24 when I found a 44 Hand Ejector 4th Model Target from 1955 a few years ago. The 'pre-model 24.

So I hope you enjoy your new 44.

P.S. I would post a photo of my 44 HE 4th Model, but Photobucket is still being useless.

The models 24 and 624 are great revolvers. People always told me they aren't rare but I never came across very many of them and I always looked. I did own 3 624's but sold one a few years ago. I do have 1 24-3 in 4". And that is all the S&W .44 Spls I've ever seen.

You got a good one take care of it and it will last forever.

I lucked into a 624 20 or so years ago when there were virtually no 44 specials outside of Taurus and Rossi. Called a friend who was a dealer and asked him how much one of the Taurus five shooters would be. He said he had a Smith 624 I could get for a little more. I bought it. 4", Bullseye spring kit and a little Polish and I won back most of what I paid shooting pins. One of the boys will get this one. Skeeters load minus .5 grains is my favorite. Seven woodchucks won't argue.

The 24 and a 6” 14 are two S&W revolvers that I probably wouldn’t pass up if I saw one in the consignment case, no matter how mad the wife would be if so brought home another orphaned revolver.

Those guns are timeless classics... while the wife gets over being mad at me fairly quickly ;).

Stay safe.

Pull up your chairs boys and girls. I'm going to tell a story on myself about just how dumb I can be.

I have owned not one, but TWO Model 24-3's over the years. One of them had the original box, papers, and so on. Alas, I let them get away from me.

Oh, did I mention that both of them were the scarcer 4" barrel models?

If anyone is looking for me, I'll be over here in the corner, blubbering. :)

And to the OP. That's a nice one you got there. Hold onto it.
